In fairness to Russia, they have been invaded twice by Western Europe in just the last 200 years. They have no natural barriers like oceans, great rivers or mountains that act as natural defenses. When the wall came down we promised we would not mess with the defensive expanses of land the russians had always relied on, from the Ukraine, Lavia, Lithuania and more we have pushed the Wests agenda to pull these countries out of the Russian sphere of influence. So yeah, they have reason to push back.
You quoted him from a specific time frame. If you believe that is his position you live in cloistered universe facts don't penetrate.
