Alex Karras’ description of Dempsey's record breaker on a late night TV talk show ( maybe Carson) a few years later was some great humor. Dempsey’s accomplishment was epic....at the time almost the equal of Beamon’s Long jump record in the Olympics.

As a log suffering Lions fan, I was watching on live TV when Dempsey kicked the 63 yard field goal. I was a senior in college and I had already been accustomed to the Lions clinching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I've been keeping up, and I had not previously heard of any of the musicians who died.
