The new phrase of the year in college football is "They don't pass the eyeball test" (and variations of that--all brought to you by morons from ESPN). I was wondering about what next year's ridiculous phrase of the year will be, a phrase that pundits and idiots across the land will all believe is incredibly insightful. This is the thread for posters to throw out their guesses for next year's most popular meaningless and ridiculous phrases.

My guess: "This team doesn't fill out its jockstraps."

Alternate: "They don't make nut cups big enough for Alabama."

Welp...my eyeballs can read schedules. And for the most part, my eyeballs see that Iowa doesn't have to apologize for theirs at all.

It is the results, after all, that should be the only criteria these guys use in evaluating things like this. If and only if in their mind teams are 100% equal in results should the eyeball test come into place to break ties.

Sadly, talking heads et al don't always go by this.

One thing I have noticed...on ESPN, Finebaum took a serious 180 when talking about Iowa. He's not ready to say he was wrong per se...but he no longer considers them an "afterthought" in the whole deal. Something (such as digging maybe...I dunno, some) got to him to change his mind...at least what he says on the network itself.

I hate the eyeball test but it's here to stay if the committee system is maintained. We have to deal with it and we've been given a huge dose of what America thinks of Iowa. If eyeballs don't like this team, they'll never like an Iowa team.

Eyeball test is simply "how many 4- 5- stars in one team"!! The media creates these player ratings, so they want fans to follow what they said. Iowa is not supposed to be up there according to the media, because we only have 8 4 & 5 stars on the team, and was not on their preseason top 25, top 40, or even top 60, Iowa's standing now only make them look foolish.....

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've been thinking. Interesting that there was an article about how Baylor and Okie State have a special recruiting philosophy that allows them to get great recruits who aren't four and five star guys ... I kept thinking while I was reading it, "Um, isn't that what Iowa's been doing ever since Ferentz arrived? So why are Baylor and OKST 'for real' and Iowa isn't?"

Anyway, I still get a kick out of how fast "eyeball test" has become a commonplace description for a football team. "Well, they can't play worth a damn, but they sure do look good when they lose." And everybody knows it's better to lose pretty than to win ugly ... Wait, somebody forgot to tell Iowa that it's not about winning, it's about looking good!

"eye test"

5 "power" conferences plus Notre Dame and/or another Independent.

Yeah....let's figure out a fair way to make a 4 team playoff.

Square peg.....round hole.

This is still a popularity contest designed to reward the teams based on many years gone past.

And the cycle continues.
