F’ing Cardinals

Curious if it's involving the recalled players, 5 of them total. Two of them were Covid positive prior.

Read a blurb that the Cubs have chartered a flight from StL to Chicago.

There goes the entire series...

If this is a player that was on the roster when all the other 7 caught the virus - the Cards will be off yet another full week. No choice really. That's a long incubation period to wait out.

They're gonna need another spring training/summer camp. That'll be 14 days + without playing. Hell, they haven't even been practicing.

If they're off another week. What is that like 55 games in 43 days. Even with 7 inng double headers that seems difficult.

14 double headers. Toss in a couple triple headers.

Normally I would laugh at this. But aside from the triple headers - if StL is off another week...oh my.

MLB - they WILL re-schedule these lost games too. No choice - there is no arbitrary way MLB will designate any game cancelled in the guise of maintaining scheduling integrity. However, after thinking about it - I fully expect StL to forfeit a bunch of games themselves.

They'll have to. It'll piss off a lot of the bosses in MLB, but they just cannot play 55 games in roughly 45 or less days. Just cannot happen. So, you have a single game scheduled against a last place team or two...just forfeit them to have a day off and align your roster for the upcoming DH's.

The Seattle Mariners are the only current
MLB franchise that has never appeared
in a World Series.
George W. Bush prefers baseball games
outside.
The San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies,
Texas Rangers, Tampa Bay Rays, and
Milwaukee Brewers have all played in the
Series but have never won it.

Lol, formatting is a bit off, but I did think it was a Lute post until the bottom.

If MLB forced forfeits here, the clubs not affected would cry foul. That whole scheduling integrity they've harped about in all this would get thrown out the window.

My gut feeling is MLB will simply pile on more DH's...and StL will decide which games to forfeit themselves. And MLB will be fine with that as long as the forfeits make logical sense in that StL isn't handing the division or playoffs to a team by forfeiting an entire series.

Imagine if StL is made to forfeit a 3 game Cubs series and a 3 game Milwaukee series. How would you feel if you're the Red and Pirates? Let StL choose to forfeit a game here against Pittsburgh, a game there against KC, a game over there against Detroit, a game each to Milwaukee and the Cubs. That kind of thing.

Spread the wealth so to speak. This allows StL to align their roster to where they don't kill their entire club. It also helps out all the clubs they have to now play DH's with.

55 games in 49 days (and probably less than that when it all shakes out) is not happening. One, StL won't do it, two the MLBPA won't let MLB do it to them - and it solves similar roster management issues with opponents that got caught up in all these extra DH's added in.

If they're going to be required to keep playing, give them an opportunity to survive it. Yes, it is indeed tanking, but StL's season is ruined anyway so don't let it take down anybody else's season too. This way MLB takes less a hit, and it allows StL to at least have a fighting chance in the games they do play.

Not sure why the infected teams causing the games to be cancelled aren't forced to forfeit.
M ore confusing is the 60 man roster. Why have this if it wasn't designed for this exact type of situation. I understand the diluted nature, but this is when it would be useful.

Yep.

The Marlins have somewhat managed because they had a single stretch out, and locked it down. The Cards still don't know how this all happened.

StL could potentially go 2 full weeks without playing. They've practiced once I believe a week ago Thursday, and Wednesday-Thursday this week. Now, they're locked down yet again.

Then, they had 2 guys test positive that flew on flights from Minneapolis to Milwaukee, then Milwaukee to St. Louis - whose incubation period was much longer. I'm betting Mo is right now bracing for another wave of 6-7 more positives coming if not more.

I believe on that Zoom presser yesterday, he made the comment "I haven't had any sleep the last few days trying to figure all this out" - something like that. Right now he's sweating out yet another round of tests wondering if his team will play at all next week.

And that's the kicker here. Anybody not already tested positive that was on both those plane rides is suspect. For all we know, the whole leftover roster might be wiped out in the next 48-72 hours.

Not only that - they still really don't know how this happened. Who is Patient Zero, and are they out of the picture as to not infect anybody else?

You just can't make this stuff up.

A friend swears he saw a Cardinal player or two in the Milwaukee Casino the previous Friday.

And they were French-kissing.
