Face it, Ted Cruz. You can't be president.

Donald Trump is actually right about something: Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is not a natural-born citizen and therefore is not eligible to be president or vice president of the United States.

The Constitution provides that “No person except a natural born Citizen . . . shall be eligible to the Office of President.” The concept of “natural born” comes from common law, and it is that law the Supreme Court has said we must turn to for the concept's definition. On this subject, common law is clear and unambiguous. The 18th-century English jurist William Blackstone, the pre-eminent authority on it, declared natural-born citizens are “such as are born within the dominions of the crown of England,” while aliens are “such as are born out of it.” The key to this division is the assumption of allegiance to one's country of birth. The Americans who drafted the Constitution adopted this principle for the United States. James Madison, known as the “father of the Constitution,” stated, “It is an established maxim that birth is a criterion of allegiance. . . . (And) place is the most certain criterion; it is what applies in the United States.”

From the beginning

Cruz is, of course, a U.S. citizen. As he was born in Canada, he is not natural-born. His mother, however, is an American, and Congress has provided by statute for the naturalization of children born abroad to citizens. Because of the senator's parentage, he did not have to follow the lengthy naturalization process that aliens without American parents must undergo. Instead, Cruz was naturalized at birth. This provision has not always been available. For example, there were several decades in the 19th century when children of Americans born abroad were not given automatic naturalization.

Well, if this guy decreed it 250 years ago then I guess the case is closed.

Our current President was born in Kenya and grew up studying the holy Koran in Indonesia. We know this because he told us so in his own book.

I'm curious about something. Why is the Koran or growing up in Indonesia parts important for this discussion?
because he keeps hiding it and lying and saying it never happened and he grew up in Hawaii, but as far as being eligible for president, it doesn't really matter, except, who wants a lying muslim as president? he has a sister from Indonesia, half sister. maya.

The one thing we now know is that Liberal's and progressive's are scared shitless of Ted Cruz. That is exactly why he is getting my vote.

LOL...

1. Not scared in the slightest. PLEASE nominate that gasbag.

2. He's eligible. It's his own party that hates his guts.

Technically the first 8 Presidents would not have been eligible since they were born before there was a United States.

Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution specifically addressed that issue:

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States.

Where things get complicated, as I understand it, is that Cruz's mother's name is on an official list of people able to vote in a Canadian election from the year he was born.

If she was a dual citizen then I don't see that as a problem. It would obviously be a problem if she had renounced her American citizenship.

There's a lot of gray area with dual citizenship that I'm not sure has been settled. If Cruz's dad was Cuban and his mom was an American-Canadian who could vote in Canadian elections...

I think the natural-born thing is stupid anyway, but there's enough there to make a person at least question Cruz's eligibility.

Another distraction to make us forget all of these candidates are idiots...

If there's a rule begging to be cleaned up this is it. Personally I don't care where the prez is born if that's what the people want. I can't even understand the argument against it, but can at least respect it. Either way it baffles me that this could be a grey area. It's embarrassing
