I've tried to bring this up in the past; let's just look at policy, but that failed (expectedly) as the thread simply turned into another TRUMP IS THE WORST PERSON EVER thread (with a few exceptions of folks trying to discuss "just the facts, ma'am").

Sooo, again, what are the Democrats looking to do when/if they return to power in November? Will the far leftests push their agenda? What is their agenda? Is it good, bad, matter of opinion?

Will they:
- Get rid of the Senate filibuster so a simple majority can pass legislation?
- What happens to the 2nd Amendment? I'm for better gun controls, but they need to be reasonable (can discuss in depth if so desired)
- Will they attempt to pass legislation allowing illegal...sorry, undocumented persons to vote? (or is this just an urban legend created by the far right to instill fear?)
- Does BLM political/Marxist aspirations gain traction?
- What happens to taxes? Do they stay the same or increase significantly to fund more federal programs; e.g. universal health care, college tuition, etc.
- What happens to Defense spending?

As a seemingly Libertarian by definition, what are my key take-aways to vote Biden aside from Trump is a divisive, ego-maniacal a$$hat?

Hopefully green new deal stuff starts gaining momentum. We need to get to work on building a society that is equipped to withstand and mitigate stressors brought on by global warming—extreme weather events, food production/supply interruptions, human migration, increased frequency of public health issues, on and on—and let’s not forget interruptions to football and basketball god dammit.

Outlaw religious schools

Establish racial quotas for all businesses

State run health care

Illegals can vote

Mandate abortions

Islam becomes official state religion

Switch to a fully socialist economic system

Re-education camps for Trump voters.

Defund police

Mandate kneeling for National Anthem

...
Actually, the re-education camp thing might be worth considering.

I added a big one, which is why Andrew Yang really interested me. He always struck me as a guy truly looking to ensure America is prepared and postured for the future rather than just another politician more focused on gaining/maintaining power...but I digress. He's a non-option.

So, can the above happen in Capitalist environment while still maintaining our status as a constitutional republic?

That is the far right's mantra which isn't any different than the far left's. Hell, we just had a national womens soccer player literally have to defend herself for NOT kneeling. ...far cry from "mandated kneeling", but the court of public opinion "aka the mob" is doing a pretty good job of running things these days.

Raise taxes and increase spending.....that’s pretty much a given. Otherwise, unlikely they will do anything. Pretty much BAU for either party.

Oh, there will be a few “token” things designed to make minorities feel better that are superficial but not really mean much. The next 2-4 years will be spent blaming Trump for everything.

Anyone who thinks any real changes will occur is a fool. Politicians are gonna be politicians. No matter which party they belong to.

Gain control how? Presidency only or Presidency plus House and Senate?
If the Democratic party retains control of the House, gains the majority in the Senate and then the Presidency, they would essentially gain "control"; especially if they abolish the filibuster.

Damn, I wish we could some how convince politicians to put themselves out of work by instituting term limits. That would be the biggest political achievement of my lifetime.

If they get all 3 then America ends and something else begins.

Like renaming syrup?

Company A - We've changed our racist name!
Black people - Awesome! Can you stop killing us?

Company B - We've removed racist themes!
Black people - um...Awesome! Can you stop killing us?

Company C - We've hired more black people than our competitors!
Black people - ummm...ya...thanks, but...Can you stop killing us, PLEASE!?

I've been seeing a lot of these types of themes play out in typical "meme form" on SM, which plays perfectly to the "superficial" part of your response.

Also, Trump has spent the last 4 years blaming Obama, so I guess this $hit will just go back and forth.

I believe it is not in the country’s best interest to have one party control the House, Senate, and Presidency.
Meh, I'm all for giving it to Trumpian Rs or the Ds and getting this show on the road. I'm tired of all the footsie.

Agreed...hell, I can't even stand the two party system; especially when there are broken/extreme factions hidden (in plain sight) within those parties. AOC is not the same Democratic party Bill Clinton subscribes to.

Was this supposed to be thought provoking?

AOC is the logical endgame of modern progressive liberalism. She embodies everything that they've striven for for 100 years.

My bad. Sorry.
IMO memes are rarely accurate, but they tend to pass on the emotions of something in a passive (often passive aggressive) form. Been seeing a lot of those, "thanks, but please don't kill us" memes lately.

...probably by white people or Russian bots, though. LOL

To whom did she have to defend herself? I asked earlier but never got an answer.

must have missed it...to "the mob". She literally had to...er um, felt compelled to...release an apology (aka: justification) statement.

I've noticed a trend these days...celeb (including pro athletes), say something and when that "something" generates enough backlash, they feel compelled to address it; usually with some sort of apology.

Personally, she had nothing to apologize for or justify; and that applies to kneeling or standing. It's her right and choice.

They will push through all the moderate things that are on the table. Background checks. Gun show loopholes. Yada, yada.

The interesting questions are whether they will push for another ban on what are commonly called "assault weapons" or even push for mandatory biometric safeties and such.

One thing should be clear to pro-gun folks: You may get away with only modest gun controls at first, but if there is another school shooting, all bets are off.

What mob? I’m serious. Do a handful of people on Twitter constitute a mob?

At the federal level? Of course not. And, yes, this is stupid nonsense being spread by the right.

That said, some localities do allow non-citizen residents to vote on local matters. Which makes sense to me, because you want input and agreement from those who actually live there.

What you should probably worry about more is some sort of partial amnesty with a fast track to citizenship. Possibly full amnesty for DACA folks, with a very fast track to citizenship.

Needless to say, I'd like top see those options.

As a gun owner, those are some of the moderate gun legislation changes I support as well.

There are over 20 states with term limits. It hasn’t helped them. Quite the opposite, it tunes over more control to lobbyists.

- What happens to taxes? Do they stay the same or increase significantly to fund more federal programs; e.g. universal health care, college tuition, etc.
Most of the Bernie/Lizzie agenda has already been preempted by GOP tax giveaways and bailouts aimed mainly at the rich.

Only if Lizzie is VP would I expect there to be even a little movement on big changes, no matter how good the ideas, or how needed the programs.

Yes, there will be efforts to restore tax sanity by undoing some of this millennium's destructive tax cuts, but I doubt they will go far enough.

The one agenda item we simply can't ignore, and have to come up with money for is climate change. But I don't have much confidence that Biden will do what's necessary. He might sign the needed legislation, though, if enough progressives are elected to craft and pass it.

Will they:

- Get rid of the Senate filibuster so a simple majority can pass legislation? Yes - especially as it currently stands. It has no historical support at all. Moscow Mitch turned it into a weapon and it needs to go. If you want to filibuster, stand your ass up on the floor and talk til you drop.

- What happens to the 2nd Amendment? I'm for better gun controls, but they need to be reasonable (can discuss in depth if so desired) Universal background checks for ANY transfer.

- Will they attempt to pass legislation allowing illegal...sorry, undocumented persons to vote? (or is this just an urban legend created by the far right to instill fear?) No.

- Does BLM political/Marxist aspirations gain traction? I have no idea what this means. I wasn't aware that equal protection was Marxist.

- What happens to taxes? Do they stay the same or increase significantly to fund more federal programs; e.g. universal health care, college tuition, etc. I suspect there will be a push to ramp them up on people in the top 5% with larger increases for the very top. Hopefully, they will also normalize the rates across income sources.

- What happens to Defense spending? Hopefully drops by a great deal over time.

I doubt your first 4 get addressed much at all. I’d look to a public option for the ACA, a DACA solution and taxes to go up.
All good ideas . . . 8 years ago. Barely adequate 4 years ago. Inadequate today.

But I fear that and a few other tokens may be all we'll get. Partly because Biden is not a progressive, and partly because the criminal GOP has already looted the treasury for now and into the indefinite future.

Other tokens? Rejoining the Paris climate accord. Maybe working something out with Iran to get them back on track - but I wouldn't count on that.

We'll rush to join the TPP. Because that's what the corporatists in both D and R parties want.

Construction on the wall will probably stop. Fossil fuel subsidies will continue. New drilling and mining may be halted if it hasn't started yet, but most will rush to start, and Biden won't reverse them.
