Joe T (25 Min) Ulis (12) JBo (3)
JBo (25 Min) Perkins (15)
PMac (20) Kris (15) Sandfort (5)
Keegan (25) CMac (15)
Rebraca (30) Mulvey or Josh (10)

If that rotation is cut to an 8-Man squad CMac picks up all of those minutes working at the 3 and 4, while Keegan gets some of his at the 5. Kris, Mulvey, Josh and Sandfort get spot minutes. This is one year I really want a 10 man rotation.

PMac might be doubtful for extended minutes. He always looked really gassed after 5-7 minutes of intense play. And, he does play hard. I do wonder if the thyroid issue screws with his metabolism and endurance. I hope not, but it's possible.

I could see CMac and PMac at the 3 with Keegan and Kris rotating at the 4. If Perkins takes a step forward I could see a more even split between him and JoBo. I think whichever of Mulvey or Big O can grasp things and make the team better when they are in will have an opportunity to play some major minutes this year.

Still a lot of unknowns going into next year but I am looking forward to it!

Just don't see this frankly. First off if Perkins is only a backup for Jbo he may very well not be here by the end of the year. He need to play more to get in the flow, and probably some as a three. Frankly with Keegan, and Rebraca, and Pmac who could play the four there is ZERO reason for Cmac to play that spot. Zero. Not saying he won't, (and I'm not a Fran hater), but there is no reason with this lineup for him to play the four. He should also not be the point guard. Its time for full speed ahead for Joe T and Ulis, period. I have no idea what Fran will do, but I just can't see who Cmac should be playing in front of, and I appreciate all his efforts the last three years, BUT its time for the young turks and there is the rub, because if Cmac is able to play, we all know he's going to taking minutes from someone. The question is who's going to draw the short straw.......

Agree, there should be no way Connor plays the 4 for any real amount of minutes. There are enough guys there where it isn't necessary even if Iowa goes "small".

And if JBo is getting 28mpg combined at both guard spots, he better be hitting at least 4 or 5 threes every game. Otherwise his bad defense becomes a big liability again and he's keeping youngsters like Ulis and Perkins out of the lineup.

I think JBo's return hurts Connor the most. As guards, I wouldn't want their defense on the floor at the same time but if it's going to be one over the other, I'd probably pick the career 40% 3pt shooter.

This is about the way I see it too (or maybe would like to see it in the case of CMac).

I have a hard time seeing the appropriate position for CMac honestly. I know he's a "glue guy" and will be playing a lot when he's full strength from surgery but I just don't see where exactly.

Also, a poster on TOS said he read or heard a comment from Mulvey where Fran told him the plan was for Rebraca (expressed as a transfer as this was before Rebraca's commitment was announced) to get 25 - 30 minutes with Mulvey getting 10 - 15 minutes. No mention of Josh O suggesting he still needs some more time to advance his game if the comment was correct.

I'll be surprised if Kris Murray does not play a very significant role next season.

Agreed! And he is not a 4, like his brother. He is definitely more of a 3. But WTH are we talking about 3s and 4s... This is positionless basketball anymore. THAT is where Iowa needs to thrive.

Create a bunch of matchup nightmares, but still be able to defend. KeM, PMac, KrM, Filip, etc make that very possible.

Reverse the minutes distribution for Perkins and Bohannon, unless Bohannon hits multiple threes and his terrible D is being successfully covered by his teammates.

Reduce Cmac to 10 minutes in some sort of duct tape like spot duty. Hopefully less as the season progresses.

And please don't have Bohannon and Cmac on the floor at the same time

Here's a summary (and some history) of how we got to this year's roster.

Note: Weezy likely falls out, as we all know. But that appears to be the final piece to the puzzle because it looks like Fran is done in the transfer portal.

In Men's basketball, you can have 13 on scholarship.

ONE THING TO MONITOR: due to covid-19, 2020-2021 was considered a "free year" by the NCAA, so seniors Luka Garza and Jordan Bohannon could have come back for the 2021-2022 season. Bohannon decided to do so. So, anyone listed below (with the exception of Bohannon and Filip Rebraca) as SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS OR SENIORS, could potentially play a year later than CURRENTLY expected.

Current Roster (13 currently on scholarship):

FRESHMEN: 2 players

6'7" F Payton Sandfort (***)

6'11" C Riley Mulvey (***)

SOPHOMORES: 6 players

6'11" C Josh Ogundele (***)

6'4" G Tony Perkins (***)

6'2" G Ahron Ulis (***)

6'8" F Keegan Murray (Not Rated)

6'8" F Kris Murray (Not Rated)

6'9" SF Patrick McCaffery (****); on May 29, 2020, Patrick received approval for a medical hardship after playing in just 2 games in the 2019-2020 season, giving him 4 years of college eligibility (through 2024).

JUNIORS: 2 players

5'10" PG Joe Toussaint (***)

6'9" SF Filip Rebraca; on April 22, 2021, Filip, who was a Junior at that time, announced he was transferring from North Dakota to Iowa. Filip played 3 years at ND but will have 2 years eligibility remaining at Iowa due to the covid-19 free year that all 2020-2021 athletes were given.

SENIORS : 3 players

6'0" PG Jordan Bohannon (***); was originally scheduled to graduate in 2020; had surgery on his right hip in May 2019; appeared in only 10 games in 2019; on December 19, 2019 he underwent surgery on his left hip (6-9 month recovery period); applied for a medical hardship and for one more year of eligibility. On May 12, 2020, Jordan was granted another year of eligibility (medical hardship waiver). On April 26, 2021, Jordan announced that he was returning to Iowa for a sixth season (the 2020-2021 season was ruled a "free year" by the NCAA due to covid-19 uncertainties; in March, 2021, Jordan had planned on being done. Instead, he had a change of heart & decided to come back for ONE FINAL YEAR).

6'6" SG Joe Wieskamp (****)

6'5" G/F Connor McCaffery (****); announced on Apr 28, 2017 that he will play baseball in the Spring of 2018 and redshirt in basketball in the fall of 2017; ended up, however, playing in 4 games in Dec 2017 as a true freshman, mostly because of the Christian Williams departure. However, after missing two games due to a sprained ankle, eight contests due to mononucleosis, and 19 games after undergoing a tonsillectomy in December, 2017, he was granted a hardship waiver on March 26, 2018, where he will have 4 years of basketball eligibility remaining; on April 11, 2018, Connor was put on scholarship.

Josh Ogundele will be the #1 Center and play 20-25 min a game. Be the #1 surprise/breakout player on this roster and one the breakout players in the BIG10. I don’t understand the masses view of his lack of potential based on his circumstances. The dude is going to be a beast!

And I assume he battled with Garza all year. I’d doubt that was enjoyable

Too early to know how the young guys are going to step up. As the young guards improve, I hope we see fewer minutes for JB, although he is a valuable weapon. I also hope that Mulvey or Big O can give us more than 10 minutes of quality time. Fran has lots of options at 3/4 to figure out.

Yes to all of the above.
More minutes for the younger guards and Josh O.
Limited role for Bohannon as a shooter, if his defensive deficiencies can be covered up. And a limited role for Connor in spot situations.
Time to move on from the past few years and embrace a new group and style of play.

The way I see it, if JoBo isn't in the game and an opponent starts to pack the lane, put him in to force them to adapt. Otherwise I think he will be splitting time with the other guards.

The learning curve had to be HUGE!!! I think that showed too. JO was slower & tubbier at the beginning of the year. Can he get in better shape, of course. But when he went up against Cock-burn, you could definitely tell that a season going up against Luka made a difference.... That is invaluable.

Josh learn a ton from Luka this year. It will bring dividends for the coming years. Same goes for Nunge. What Jack developed into was an all-around player. Xavier is going to have a star on their hands!

I would love to see that. He just might become the breakout player this season his brother was last season.

Count on it!! I have seen KeM and KrM play multiple games against good to very good competition when they were at DME. KrM will leave you shaking your head why he didn't play this year....but I get it. The roster was too deep already.

That noted, KrM is without question my breakout player of the year....with Perkins 2nd and Ulis 3rd.

Fran will have a team next year. Top 5 in the B1G. Take that to the Vegas.

Go Hawks!

I hope you are right. The potential seems to be there, but until we see it in B1G games, we have a lot of what if's.

Fall '21
Projected....

Keegan 28 (+11 vs YAG)
PMac 23 (+8)
JBo 23 (-6)
Rebraca 21 (+21)
CMac 20 (-3)
Joe T 19 (+7)
Perkins 16 (+10)
Ulis 15 (+9)
Kris 13 (+10)
Riley 9 (+9)
Sandfort 7 (+7)
Josh 6 (+3)
.

Here is my swing at it....

Keegan 30 (+13 vs YAG)
Rebraca 23 (+23)
JBo 22 (-7)
PMac 21 (+6)
Joe T 21 (+9)
CMac 20 (-3)
Kris 17 (+14)
Perkins 16 (+10)
Ulis 15 (+9)
Sandfort 10 (+10)
Josh 10 (+7)
Riley 6 (+6)

KeM & KrM make the biggest jumps. That HAS to happen...unless Perkins or Ulis or one of the newcomers makes a big splash. Look for KrM to impress

JBo will settle into his wise man position and be the leader of the team. This time more of a player/coach position. Interesting.....

Sandfort, JoshO and Riley are wildcards, IMHO. They all could be big additions, and I expect as much, just not right away...sometime, but next year it will happen for one of them. Hopefully ALL three!!
