In 1994, Walt Disney Pictures produced a PG comedy called “Blank Check” about an 11-year-old boy who gets into a bike accident with an escaped convict and ends up with $1 million.

Though the movie is generally fun in a classic ’90s fashion, with tons of hijinks and corny jokes, there’s one small problem: The 11-year-old main character’s love interest is an adult woman.

The 1994 film has recently found itself back in the spotlight now that it’s available to stream on Disney Plus. On TikTok, user therjpowell recorded a now-viral video addressing the controversial kissing scene in the movie, calling it “cringey.”

“Tell me why Disney thought it was OK to leave this movie on Disney Plus,” therjpowell asks.

Though the entire concept of an 11-year-old falling in love with a grown woman is troubling, therjpowell calls out one problematic scene in particular in his video: the one where the 11-year-old and the grown woman — an FBI agent named Shay — actually kiss on the mouth.

Tiktokers were incredibly disturbed by this scene, especially following the revelation that the actors in the film were 12 and 31 during filming.

“WHEN I TELL YOU MY JAW DROPPED AT THE END,” one person said.

“I SAW THIS MOVIE A FEW WEEKS AGO AND I WAS ENRAGED!!!” another person commented.

“Disney… WHAT ARE YOU DOINNNN???” a third person asked.

When the film came out in ’94, the Chicago Tribune called it “one of the sleazier movies ever marketed to kids.”

“With its contrived plot, its MTV-inspired montages and its blatant shilling for products, it is film as hard sell, and it comes with a decidedly suspect warranty,” the zero-star review reads. “Its mercantile instincts are so primary it looks like an infomercial … Such a movie for children (from Disney yet) is a scary sign that Hollywood’s sensibilities are so out of whack there is no ethical bedrock left.”

Probably a crappy movie but I don’t think the kiss is that big a deal. It’s not like they made out. It was a one-second peck on the lips. If she kisses him on the cheek, no one thinks anything of it.

The current state of journalism is creating articles based around how a bunch of dipshits react on Twitter.

We're going in the tank.
Yeah, this has to be one of the worst developments in modern journalism -- if you can call it that...

Idiots are outraged on twitter! (which begets more idiots being outraged)

Why is the concept of an 11 year old boy falling in love with an adult woman troubling?

I’m guessing most 11-year-olds are much more likely to rub one out to a woman who looks like that rather than someone their own age.

The troubling part is that the woman would entertain the 11-year-old boy.

She gave the kid a little peck out of pity. It’s not like she was horned up on him.

The whole thing is a fantasy. It's like we've forgotten concepts like fantasy. That's where I think "safetyism" can destroy or diminish art and lots of what makes life fun if we don't have perspective. Trying to ferret out any bit of possible harm that might occur with the transmission of art, or a concept, or an idea into broader culture is a terrible practice.

This was not a serious endorsement of 11 year olds holding romantic relationships with adults, this should be clear to everybody.

Was that Duff the MTV VJ? I was probably the same age as that kid at that time and had also ran that scenario in my head a few times.

How is that really any different than “Big”? Sure, it was Tom Hanks & Elizabeth Perkins on screen, but the Hanks character was really just a kid getting his first boob squeeze.
Exactly, watching that movie now is pretty cringy.

mindless sleaze on the internet

I remember I had a big-time crush on my third grade teacher. Brunette hair, wore complementing black outfits, ample ... ANYWAY, one day she's at the blackboard with her back to us and I finally noticed she's LEFT-HANDED! What freak! Just ruined it for me, lol.

Anyhoo, just kinda funny the juxtaposition of a very immature idea vs a versus a very mature interest.

Kinda related topic - I was watching (well, surfing my phone while my wife had the show on is more accurate), one of them damn Netflix dramas my wife loves so damn much (Ginny & Georgia I think its called) and they had a sex scene with someone who I think is supposed to be like a sophomore or JR in Highschool.

Of course there was no nudity, but it went on for a couple minutes with more than a couple simulations going on - finger/tongues/etc.....ya pervs get the drift.

I was thinking to myself how is this not basically kid porn? Maybe it's the old guy in me, but I thought it was really cringe.

My wife was like, "you don't think kids do that?" I said of fricken course they do, hell, we did, but that's not the point.
My point is, if an adult had filmed us doing that and distributed it, I assume it would've been illegal even if no naughty bits were shown?

Don't watch Riverdale, then.
