Farniok says decision to come after Army bowl

He was planning to announce during the Army all star game but delayed to make visits in January. Think it will be an Iowa-Nebraska battle for the signature

Does he have ties to Nebraska? Curious as to why anyone would pick Nebraska over good programs. Playing time?

Does his dad paint?
Who was the recruit iowa had who had the dad that got the painting contract in lincoln? Then still came to iowa.

Reiff?

Bad decision to pick Nebraska over Iowa if you're a tackle prospect. Really can't understand these kids and their decision making. Iowa is the better program right now and starting tackles at Iowa play in the NFL. That's really all you should need to make an intelligent decision. Oh well, on to the next kid that has NFL aspirations.

Some reasons why Matt Farniok should pick IOWA over the Cornholers.........

1) Brian Ferentz
2) 12-0, Big10 West Championship
3) Kirk Ferentz
4) Brandon Scherff #1 Offensive lineman picked in NFL draft 2014
5) Robert Gallery
6) Riley Reiff
7) Bryan Bulaga, from IOWA, NFL Offensive Tackle Univ

While I completly agree and have even a Hawk since day 1. If he's been a Husker his whole life, that says something...

Hell, if I were in his shoes id go to iowa if the situations at NU and UI were flipped...so going straight off "credentials" and "positional excellence" only is not all that goes into a decision...

I have no idea, but that is definitely Husker territory. He likely grew up a Husker fan.
Got it, Sioux Falls. It says Washington in the article so I was thinking Washington state-- which is close to Oregon so was thinking maybe he knew Riley.

I read somewhere Alaric Jackson is visiting Iowa in January with the Detroit DE duo Lattimore and Golston.

Perhaps deep inside he's not sure he can play at Iowa. I mean, if you were an OL and met the Paulsen twins wouldn't you be a little overwhelmed?

I don't think Farniok is overwhelmed by them.... Not his mentality from everything read..

You know, this is why I could not earn a living working with 18 year old kids. Just assume it's down to Nebby and Iowa. HOW IN THE HELL COULD YOU SELECT NEBBY?

  • You have a coach in trouble at Nebby
  • You have a coach with 17 years of experience at Iowa who's produced "2" Outland Trophy winners for Christ's Sake
  • You have no idea what the next system at Nebby is gonna be, and have almost certainty this coach will never cut it.
  • You have total certainty that Kirk will there "or" the transition will be seamless
  • You have incredible line coaches
Look, I know Dave Remington went to Nebby, but that was back when their blood was really blue. How on earth could a young man who dreams of the NFL walk away from Iowa?

Certainly this young man can see this and very well may be headed to IC for school. But that's not always the case.

This is not directed toward anyone in Sioux Falls, SD. It's just a general statement: John Wayne was right, "Life is harder when you're stupid."

I too, want the best Fball players to choose Iowa, but you are underestimating Nebby. I know, kick 'em while they're down, etc... But they are a smart QB (not great, just smart) away from 8 or 9 win seasons IMO. They physically matched up well with us and probably everybody on their schedule this year. I don't know what to make of Coach Riley...he had the deer in the headlights look at times, but we've seen that on our sideline before, too.

Kid seems to be a stud OLmen in the making. He has a kid brother who is a highly thought of interior OLmen who I think is a SO right now and made an all state team with his big bro.

The reasons this kid may go to Nebraska are similar to the reasons we are hoping Epenesa chooses Iowa over the likes of Alabama and Notre Dame. If you can't understand why this kid might choose Nebraska then I assume you think we have very little hope of landing Epenesa. Sometimes the heart plays a bigger role than the brain. If Nebraska is where he's always dreamt of playing, more power to him. I still hope he flips to the Hawkeyes come signing day.

We'll be fine with him or without him on the line, pretty stacked there I think. Also, he plays offense and Nebraska's offense was ranked higher than ours by a lot. If he wants to go pro our track record speaks for itself. I still think he's a Hawk.

Nebby is not exactly on the rise and will most likely be undergoing another coaching change in the next year or two. Riley is simply not going to get it done at Nebby (at least in meeting its fans unrealistic expectations).

If he grew up a Husker fan then hard to overcome that one ...

If he's such a huge husker fan then why hasn't he committed to them by now?
Not going to pretend to know what's in the kid's head, but my uneducated opinion would be that he grew up a Husker fan, but their unimpressive season, relatively new coaching staff, and unrealistic expectations from fans has turned it into a weighing decision. Go with your school you grew up with or go with the school more likely to help you reach your dream of the NFL.

Can't say I would enjoy that decision much if I were ever in that position. That's a tough call.

I think he is from the same high school as Nebraska's safety Gerry and so he has been recruiting him to Nebraska as well. He has visited there numerous times. Way more than he has been to Iowa. Until he actually commits to Iowa I am just assuming he is going to Nebraska.

Except Nebraska is bad and Iowa is good. Epenesa would choose between ND, Alabama, and Iowa who are all good (among others).

Got to remember various factors besides football matter such as academics, campus life, location etc. Just never know for most 18 yr olds what matters most. For example this gem by Rob Gronkowski and why he picked Arizona according to his Dad-

"Rob had something like 65 scholarship offers, and I asked, “Where are you going? Syracuse? Ohio State?” He goes, “University of Arizona.” I asked, “Why there?” “Dad, if you ever went to a pool party at Arizona, you’d understand.”

And this is why I don't envy recruiting coordinators at the college level

Right now, Farniok sounds like he is nebby's to lose. Jackson has most likely played against better competition. I would be very happy to have Jackson on the team.
