favorite root beer

I like the 1919 root beer maybe the best, but I like all root beer. Only problem is I don't care for sugar in my soda other than very rare occasions.

Birch Beer? You mean “Miller Lite”?
No. I mean Birch Beer. Red or white!

I used to be a Mug guy.

Does Sioux City Sasparilla have any connection to root beer? I’ve always thought they favored each other.

Sticking only with “root beers” I’ve had and excluding those I haven’t tried or are wholly called sasparilla’s or birch beers, my favorites in order are:

1) Dang! Butterscotch Root Beer
2) Abita
3) Bulldog
4) McGuire’s Irish Pub
5) Paige’s Burgers
6) Chowning Tavern
7) Freddie’s
8) O-So Good Butterscotch Root Beer
9) Sioux City
10) IBC
11) Monticello
12) A&W
13) Boylan’s
14) Red Arrow
15) Appalachian
16) Hank’s
17) Stewart’s
18) Sprecher’s
19) Frostie’s
20) Zia’s
21) Virgil’s
22) Braums
23) Route 66
24) Saranac
25) Weber’s
26) Kutztown
27) Sparky’s
28) Henry Weinhard’s
29) Fitz’s
30) Bundaberg
31) Mug
32) Dublin Texas
33) Barq’s
34) Dad’s
35) Maine Root

Note: I like Hires second best of the mass produced stuff after A&W but I read while trying to find some names of other root beers I’ve had that it was officially discontinued in 2022. Hopefully they bring it back at some point.

Despite the length, I’m sure there’s some I’ve tried and long since forgotten about. There’s one in the Tarpon Springs/Dunedin/Clearwater area that was quite good but I can’t seem to find out its name online. I’d have it top ten.

Also, I think the Top 26 on my list are worth seeking out. Only those I numbered 27-35 would I say to skip.

I might be wrong but I personally consider sarsparilla to be root beer. I'm not sure what the difference is but the taste is the same.

You get paid for that? Impressive.

For ordinary mass distributed stuff Barqs. The rest don't really count. If I see a random root beer bottle in a checkout line I might randomly grab one if I'm thirsty but I assume most specialty types I've probably only had once each for most.

Sioux City has a sarsaparilla and a root beer.

I’ve never tried the sarsaparilla but their root beer is by far my favorite. 1919 is a close second for me. Anyone close to Clear Lake should check out Larsons Mercantile for a variety of root beers and other glass bottle pops.

Great list. I think he’s only had about 15 off that list. He likes IBC and Virgil’s a lot too.

Everything we go to a new grocery store or gift shop we have to look for new root beers.

I did in law school. Journalism isn’t worth the time necessary to ask for money when I can just take on a new case and get $10k a day. But thank you very much, I appreciate the comment.

LOL, ever been to Route 66, they have about 100 root beers maybe more. I’ve had plenty more than those 35 that I’ve forgotten over the years. And some I really liked such Swamp Pop Filé Root Beer aren‘t made any more. That would have been top 5.

@FSUTribe76 had the correct answer with Hires. I think they quit making it 10-15 years ago. I haven't seen it around for quite a while.

It was still around just not common. I think they stopped carrying it in Canada about 5-10 years ago but it was only completely shut down last year. I will say I haven’t seen it in Tally since the pandemic.

I'm sorry to say root beer is generally not on my menu anymore. Diabetic, so way too much sugar and carbs. Plus no caffeine in it.

$10k a DAY? You bill your time out at over $1k per hour? If so, in what area of law and the country, and I will move and begin training immediately.
