Views of Sen. Dianne Feinstein's job performance have tumbled to the lowest point in her three-decade Senate career, with just 30% of California voters giving her positive marks in a new UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times.

Respondents gave similarly unenthusiastic marks to Vice President Kamala Harris, whose popularity is underwater, with 38% approval and 46% disapproval, while they are evenly divided in their rating of President Biden. The assessments of both Biden and Harris dropped sharply from last summer, in line with their slumping poll numbers nationwide.

Amid the broadly pessimistic mood of Californian voters, two-thirds of whom believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, the lagging approval for Democrats Feinstein and Harris stands out, said Mark DiCamillo, director of the IGS poll.

"I was amazed at the disaffection for both of the women," DiCamillo said.

What's really amazing is this is a Berkeley poll commissioned by the LA Times.

Normally that would mean trouble, but California voters will always vote D statewide, no matter how much they disapprove of the D candidate.

Here are a couple of paragraphs from an earlier Berkeley Poll. They seem to be saying that what is working against Feinstein and Biden is their "Whiteness." ... or that their native status is not being well-received by voters.

Non-white Democrats in California seem to be faring better in the polls.

..................................

The fact that Harris, Padilla, and Becerra had the most positive appraisals among these top California elected officials suggest that California may be witnessing an historic changing of the guard in politics, as all three share one common characteristic; each comes from the ranks of the state’s large immigrant populations. Voter assessments of Feinstein’s performance lower than at any time in her tenure. For the first time in her long twenty-nine-year tenure, Feinstein’s job performance as U.S. Senator is reviewed more negatively than positively by the state’s registered voters. The latest poll finds 45% of registered voters now disapproving of the job Feinstein is doing overall, while just 35% approve. Another one in five voters (20%) have no opinion. This is a reversal in voter assessments of the senior Senator from three years ago, when the Berkeley IGS Poll found more voters rating her performance positively than negatively by a 48% to 37%margin. While the latest poll shows slippages in Feinstein’s job ratings among voters of all parties, her decline is greatest among Democrats, with 50% now approving of the job she is doing, down seventeen points from a 67% approval rating three years ago. While just 11% of Republicans currently approve of the Senator’s job performance, this is only twelve points lower than the 23% approval rating that she received from GOP voters in December 2017. Among the state’s No Party Preference voters, the latest poll found that just 31% of these voters now approve of her performance, a decline of nine percentage points from three years ago.
................................

Frankly, I would not consider this stuff too surprising. White people assuming that they can assume leadership positions among non-white populations has always struck me as odd, and always seems to come off as pandering. These trends were bound to show eventually.
