Here's an idea Kirk. Since you coached us to a dismal 7-5 season and since you just earned an extra $500,000 why don't you step up and do the right thing by offering to send 300 lucky fans to the bowl game in NYC.

I checked on the cost and here's how you could do it.

Charter 2 150 seat Private Jets RT From CR TO NYC.

$147,000 x 2= $294,000.

150 Hotel Rooms x 3 Nights at midrange downtown Manhatton
(Double Occupancy)

$189.00 x 3 x 150= $85,050.

300 tickets at $100.00=$30,000

$100.00 per diem for each person x 3 days.

$100.00 x 300 x 3= $90,000

Airfare= $294,000
Lodging= $85,050
Tickets =. $30,000
Per Diem=$90,000

Total= $499,050

That's actually a great idea, and us supportive fans we get to pick who goes....guess who won't be going..:D

I’m ok with a poor showing of Iowa fans at the Pinstripe. Everyone knows this bowl gets no excited to attend (outside of east coast alumni)B1G needs to drop this bowl anyways. No one from the Midwest wants to spend their holiday week in an overpriced city where no one cares about college football. B1G fans want warm weather for 4-7 days before we spend the next 3 months in 20 degree or colder weather.
Make the Pinstripe ACC vs MAC or Conference USA.

Great, perhaps you should step up and match the 300 with an additional 300.

You're staying at a roach motel in NYC for a double occupancy room at $189.00. One of the many reasons I don't like that Bowl. Between cabs, hotel, food...you're hemorrhaging money by the time the plane lands.

Is the per diem really necessary at that point? Lol

Without a doubt...I honestly don't really enjoy going to games live. Always a crap load of people complaining constantly

But you love this board?

I will also agree with the poster that said a $190 hotel room in NYC is not a hotel room you really want. Bed bugs.

He earned his money, he can spend it however he likes. Like the $1,000,000 + he has donated to the children's hospital, and all the money he has given that we dont know about.
Why don't you pay for 300 people to go?
Wasn’t that 1 mil his latest donation all at once. Pretty sure he’s given more than that overall. Not to mention the ladies Football Academy.

Touche'.... you know over the years I have come to appreciate you a little bit. I don't imagine you feel the same way about me but, you're probably a pretty decent chap.

Merry Christmas....

Yeah, I am sure it is much more than that, but wasn't sure so just put the + on there. Ferentz and his family do a lot for the community and it isnt all about making sure people know.
The players spend a ton of time at the hospital with kids and their family as well.

Merry Christmas to you as well. I think you make a lot of good points on this board.

I think the point is that the $500,000 should be donated as a sign of KF acknowledging that the seasons performance was not good enough. I get the point of the OP. Getting awarded that much money for that performance is ridiculous to almost anyone. He should acknowledge it as well.

Kirk doesn't owe us fans a dam thing. It's Gary Barta that needs to be the target of the witch hunt. Kirk signed the deal but Uncle Gary drew the dam contract up.
Exactly right. He's be paid based off the contract he has with the Uof I. Its pretty simple.

Of course that is the point. It's one of several reasons Gary Barta should be ran out of town. Kirk would never do it for obvious reasons. I think what you will see is another donation by Kirk and Mary in the near future.

Well I have my moments good and bad just ask my wife....:D

Between her and Jesus Christ they've got me about halfway straightened our, I was awful when I was 25..:rolleyes:

Again he's being paid based off the contract he has in place. Please give us a list of coaches that return some of their contract each season, when they don't feel they have met their expectations? We'll wait for your list.
And by the way the smart money in Vegas had Iowa winning 6.5 games this year and they still have a chance at 8 wins with a lot of young players in key positions, a new QB, and several new coaches and a first time OC. Just sayin.....

So just to be clear

Iowa had 41 All Big Ten Academic Selections

AND

For the 3rd time in the KF era out of the 5 times it has EVER happened we have 2 All Americans.

Just as a reminder this is the University of Iowa;s Mission statement:
In pursuing its missions of teaching, research, and service, the University seeks to advance scholarly and creative endeavor through leading-edge research and artistic production; to use this research and creativity to enhance undergraduate, graduate, and professional education, health care, and other services provided to the people of Iowa, the nation, and the world; and to educate students for success and personal fulfillment in a diverse world.

It is intellectually lazy and disingenuous to just say 7 wins.

Here's the thing I've managed people for many, many years and for the most part people never give their bonuses back....they are always convinced they "earned it". You honestly half to trick them into admitting they didn't perform at the highest level.

Now am I saying Kirk Ferentz is one of these guys? Who knows there's five or 10% of the population that has a pretty good grasp on what is Or isn't, what is high level, mid level, etc...generally speaking the people in here on a message board, talking about giving bonuses back...LOL. I assure you they think they're performing at their highest level, all the time, so I do find it somewhat comical to hear them say things like this.

Nope that won't do brother. That just doesn't fit with these high-level people in here. Who I'm certain generally give back some of the money they didn't earn.....Not!!!

Honestly this kind of commentary, where they're talking about giving back bonuses, encapsulates why I find this board mundane, hypocritical and completely out of touch.

I have a number of employees who are pretty good people but several of them think they are always doing everything right, always busting their ass and everyone around them including management are screwing things up....those people are miserable, that's what these people in here are....they really think they're awesome at their jobs but in reality they're probably complete bums....wouldn't it be nice to know who they were so we could send their boss a text message letting them know they were giving their bonus back LOL

Where do I state Kirk should give his bonus back? I specifically stated Kirk would not do it for obvious reasons. It's not Kirk's style.

His bonus is a sunk cost. His bonus is in his contract and he is entitled to it in its entirety. What I think you will see is another large donation back to the University in the near future. That is Kirk and Mary's MO.

If Iowa didn't like that this kind of bonus was a possibility then they should not have included that in the contract. That isn't on KF. That is on Barta getting worked over by KF's agent again

You didn't, I apologize if I quoted you and gave you that impression, you are right that is what they will do!

Here's an idea: I'll take $500k of someone else's money (you know, because they don't deserve it), and spend it however I want! After all, it's the right thing to do! If they don't willingly go along with it, then they're selfish and wrong.

Man it's good to be on the moral high ground!

Not a dismal season.
Totally agree. Sure there were some disappointing losses. But the ISU game was very entertaining. The OSU game was a once in a lifetime game. And the beat down of UN for the 4th time in 5 games...those games will be rewatched all off season
