- The Field of Dreams Movie Site will soon feature more baseball fields, team dormitories, a hotel and an outdoor concert amphitheater.

The new owners of the Field of Dreams Movie Site, Go the Distance Baseball, LLC, are unveiling their master plan to expand the site after buying it in September last year.

The $80 million expansion will add nearly 100 acres to the original 190-acre site. That additional land will provide space for nine new baseball fields, dormitories for youth teams, and a hotel to be completed in phases by the end of 2023.

Other additions include a 100,000 square foot field house, an outdoor concert amphitheater, an RV park, jogging trails and a large park inclusive for children and adults with disabilities. These additions will be completed in phases through 2025.

In a news release, Go the Distance Baseball said the plan will create a youth baseball and softball oasis while maintaining the property as a working farm.

“I am grateful for all that the game of baseball gave me throughout my career, and now I am proud and excited to lead a team that is building opportunities for players, fans, and families to enjoy our national pastime and for teams to train and compete,” said Frank Thomas, CEO of Go the Distance Baseball and a first-ballot member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Go the Distance Baseball also said the development will create about 170 new full time equivalent jobs.

Most of the charm of the place was how it was a baseball field in the middle of nowhere surrounded by corn. This sounds like it will ruin that aspect of it and just make it a sports complex in the middle of nowhere. I suppose if they can maintain the charm, cool, but it seems less interesting this way.

All of that crap just needs to be far enough away. The drone shots during the MLB game were incredible.

Great investment for the community! Creates jobs, looks like it keeps the beauty and charm and it adds a baseball haven on its 190 acre property. I would imagine a lot of teams around the Midwest would be wanting to come to a tournament in that location.

What? Looks to me like as someone else said, a baseball version of the Vegas strip….I see no charm or beauty in those renderings and descriptions

Just like Vegas I’m not saying it won’t be fun….but they may as well put it right off the interstate somewhere at this point because the “field of dreams” will have woken up to reality.

It might be ok if the other fields are far enough away from the movie site that you can't really see them.
That might be how it will start, but eventually there will be about 10 rows of corn behind the outfield that you can walk through as you make your way into the “Legends Entertainment Zone” where you can find bars, restaurants, shops and other fun establishments on your way to the Kinsella Family Field to watch the Iowa Dreamers take on the Lansing Lugnuts for a 7 PM first pitch.

We complain about Iowa not having attractions well now we are investing into an attraction but people are bitching about this amazing opportunity for a smaller community.

It’s going to look like every other baseball/softball ‘multiplex’ in the country.

What makes it special now? I bet kids will be super excited to say they played on field 11.

🙄

This was always inevitable from the start with the MLB stadium. Which I was very much supportive of. Kind of a natural evolution. It’s money grab but everything is nowadays.

This is going to be great. The movie site, farmhouse, yard, field, bleachers, backstop, surrounding cornfield, etc., are all going to be untouched and intact. These fields and complexes will be booked solid with traveling club tournaments, in-state tourneys and events, etc. allowing kids and families from around the country to have a memorable experience playing at the Field of Dreams.

I'd be willing to bet that most of those against this have never visited the place and haven't even thought about the Field of Dreams movie or site for years (or at least since last summer when the Yankees game was in the news, but probably for years prior to that). But now they're so fauxtraged that this sentimental slice of Americana that they spend zero time thinking about, zero time visiting, and will spend zero time thinking about after this story passes is being stained by commercialism... typing their disdain into their iPhones just before planning that vacation to Harry Potter World at Universal Orlando.
