Not only 1 seed, top overall. I'll keep my head in the clouds for as long as I damn well please.
Imo, Big Ten is too tough to get a 1 seed, but tough enough that the Hawks can lose some games and still hold on to the 2-3
The difficulty of the B1G schedule, particularly the back half, will keep Iowa off the 1-2 line. 19-8/20-7 will be good enough for a 3-4 seed.
I'm predicting 4-5 seed.
I'll believe in significant defensive improvements when I see it. We know this team will be able to score on anyone, but if they can't be top 50 in the country in defensive efficiency, I don't see how they can be a top 10 team. They've made strides each of the last two years after an abysmal '17-'18 season (ranked 242nd in defensive efficiency), but even last year they only ranked 97th in defensive efficiency.
A 4-5 seed would still be the best of the Fran-era and they'd have a good chance of making it to the Sweet 16. That's still a very good season.

I think Big Ten teams are probably not going to seed well this year in the tourney. Or at least that's my guess. Normally when the conference is loaded and teams end up picking up losses in conference it is at least against opponents that had shiny OOC resumes with plenty of big wins. Now there is going to be very little OOC play and going something like 15-5 is still 5 losses without as many big OOC wins to prop it up and against opponents that didn't have those same shiny records as before.
I think not having that big OOC slate really hurts a conference that is deep in terms of trying to get teams high seeds in the tourney. I mean I think the Big Ten will still have plenty of teams that get in, but going to be unlikely anybody gets a 1 or 2 seed IMHO. Just not enough easy wins in conference play.

I thought I was going to be the Debbie Downer. I voted 4-5 line and I was a little surprised to see lots of other people had similar expectations. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since it’s been so long since the Hawks made a deep run but it looks like lots of other fans also are also taking a rather cautious approach with expectations this year.
