Darren Rovell tweeted yesterday that the final ranking for the Iowa Hawkeyes will be important to more than just the fans. The assistant coaches' bonuses are directly connected to the final ranking:
  • Ending the season ranked 1-5 results in a 16% raise (NOT HAPPENING)
  • 6-10 results in a 14% raise
  • 11-15 results in a 12% raise
So, if your contract is for, say, $250K per year, the difference between being ranked #10 and #11 is a $5,000 ($35K vs. $30K). I'm sure the coordinators' salaries are far above that, though I'm too lazy to research that.

I'm guessing we end up at #8. Dropping as low as #11 is very unlikely, in my opinion. Does anyone know if this is the AP or the coaches' poll?

Simple question. Do you think Iowa honestly deserves to be ranked in the top 10?

Simple response: Yes.

Give me a good, analytical (i.e. non-emotional) reason why they should not be. If any argument you use could not be used to disqualify another "qualified" potential top-10 team for the 2015 season, I may be prone to change my mind. I don't think there is one, though.

Too easy, they didn't have a signature win this year. NW can't be considered they got blown out in their bowl game, as did Pitt. The MSU loss looks really bad after they got blown out by Bama. Wisky will be ranked in the bottom 25 and we only beat them 10-6. We played a soft schedule and it showed up in the Rose Bowl...No way Iowa finishes in the top 10.

There will be other teams in Top 10 with a similar or worse SOS as ours. Advanced metrics will support our ranking.

How you finish a season matters....loss's at the end of the year hurt you and impact you more than early season loss's. Iowa's final loss only confirmed what many voters and talking heads already suspected...we were a 12-0 product of a soft regular season schedule and nothing more. That embarrassment yesterday is going to cost us at least five spots if not more.

The four playoff teams, Stanford, tOSU and Houston for sure...then the winner of Oregon/TCU most likely...then Mississippi and Michigan could also get more votes than us. Throw in a bunch of sentimental votes for Navy and you could see us drop to #12.

A ton of other teams ranked just behind us also got trounced in their bowl games so we may not fall as far as everyone expects. For whatever reason there were a whole bunch of blowouts in bowl games this year.

They won't jump any of 1-4
They will get jumped by Stanford, OSU, Mich, Ole Miss, Oreg So 10th at BEST imo
Could also get jumped by Baylor, Houston, LSU and (?navy?)

Any I'm forgetting? I don't see tenn jumping them, definitely not utah.

One of these days you'll have a smart/correct post.

Iowa deserved top 10. You cannot look at this stuff in a vacuum, all the other teams that certain posters would have ahead of Iowa had worts too, but some Iowa fans don't see the bigger picture.

Since none of us are on staff, what matters the most now is where we are to start the season, and that really only matters if we go 12-0 or 11-1 again.

So is Stanford's loss to NW worse than appears then? Our losses came to 2 top 10 teams.

Hey, what can I say Hawks finished 9th in AP and 10th in Coaches polls I'm glad to be wrong. However you are correct both of the top 10 teams we played beat us twice in a row.
