Finally a good read, kind of

Yes indeed....this Hawkeye defense is a thing of beauty. I enjoy watching them get after it. Talk about a cool brand of football....lights out, hard-nosed, Iowa Boy football. Can't wait to have the opportunity to shut down MN in the frozen tundra. That Tiger Hawk stands for a lot of things....and badass is one of them!

Wow. Really great contribution to the thread.
Look at yours. LOL

It's been all about defense throughout KF's tenure. As many of us have noted over and over, Norm and Phil Parker have carried water for KF and, without them, Iowa would be Indiana. So give KF credit for hiring two superlative DCs and riding their coattails to great riches. Nice gig if you can get it.

The Moon Family Head Coach is so in name only. Norm Parker determined the fate of this program for years, and then Phil Parker has done the same. So yes, given the mediocrity that is the Big Ten West this season, Iowa's incredible defense definitely can win the West, even with KF's offense doing it's best to stop them.

the narrative is beginning to turn and a real appreciation for lights out defense is returning. this hardon for high-scoring games will wilt and iowa ball will be what everyone will aspire to emulate. this shift is coming.

What a testament to the defense and special teams that Iowa can still win the B1G West despite this offense and having by far the toughest cross-division opponents among the contenders.
just need to produce enough on offense to not allow mediocre to good opposing defenses look like the iron curtain against us. once we get there, there will be some riveting games to watch and potential to take down top talent while playing "iowa ball."

And how do we do that?

spot on article, really well done.

my favorite part...

"If Iowa manages to win the West, the Hawkeyes may go down as the single worst offense of any FBS to ever play for a conference championship."

This is silly. There is no "narrative" that suggests that defense is unimportant just as there will be no narrative that defense is what's most important. Iowa has one of the best defenses in the country along with excellent special teams. Because of that they are generally able to beat average and below average teams. You simply can't beat top teams with a horrible offense or defense regardless of how good the other aspects of your team are. It's as simple as that. Every phase has to at least carry a fair portion of the load to beat good teams with any regularity.

Pretty simple Jonesy. You’re correct.

Kirk's biggest strength as a coach is developing a strong culture. That's why his teams are mentally tough and that's why Norm and Phil have stayed here as long as they have.

For sure, these two coaches have been huge assets to Kirk and the program. But to give Kirk zero credit for Iowa's success is not accurate. IMO.

Are you saying that IOWA football might actually become "sexy"?

KF put the brakes on that idea many moons ago.

My post had nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing. But even if it did, as another poster pointed out, it doesn't really matter.
You thanked him for his contribution. What he said was 100% correct. Not sure why it doesn’t matter.
