Florida Gov De Whiner trying to shit all over 1st Amendment

Because people are coming from out of state to specifically punch people at protests and it’s a deterrence. Much like a hate crime charge brings an added sentence. No difference in a hate crime murder and regular murder is there?

Why do you take issue with someone trying stop people
From getting attacked? This is a reaction to real bad shit that’s happening. It’s an effort to stop it.

Because we already have the tools to deal with these things. If they come from out of state specifically to commit violence get federal prosecutors involved and up the sentences. This is all very questionable constitutionally.

Hate crimes are a scienter issue. What is the different motivation here, other than criminal conspiracy, which is already a crime?

Apparently they have looked at other states and have learned that the laws on the books of those states have not adequately deterred scumbags from coming there and tormenting their peaceful citizenry.

Maybe they don’t want rocks and molitav cocktails being thrown at their cops. Maybe they’re trying to be proactive in preventing their people from getting hurt.

What about the rights of people trying to enjoy a nice meal at a restaurant? I don't think the constitution creates a "right" to trespass on private property and harass the customers of said establishment.

That’s already illegal. If you want to up the penalty for trespassing go for it.

"EAST AURORA, NY—The toy geniuses at Fisher-Price have announced a brand new toy made just for leftist parents and their kids: the My First Peaceful Protest playset. The kid-size clubhouse will come with several varieties of spray paint so kids can tag the tiny building with their own empowering slogans. It will also be made out of cardboard, allowing the cute little tikes to burn the whole thing down if their demands are not met.

"Here at Fisher-Price, we are steadfastly committed to social justice," said toy designer Camden Flufferton. "We need to teach our kids what democracy looks like, and there's no better example of democracy in action than violent vandalism and arson. We hope this new playset will serve as an inspiration for parents wanting to teach their kids how to threaten citizens with violence whenever their demands are not met."

The set will also come with toy televisions, cell phones, jewelry, and clothing, allowing kids to simulate looting before they torch the entire set. The set will be available in stores for $399 because of capitalism.

Experts are questioning the wisdom of this move by Fisher-Price, mainly because people in the target market don't typically have any kids. "We know we'll probably only sell, like, 3 of these," said Flufferton, "but selling them isn't the point. We just need you to know we're on the right side of history.""

Until the first hearing... which is generally the next business day.
Really? You're going to treat this like murder? You've lost your mind.

Get a cop or two hauling people in on a Friday night for something subjective and might not be a crime.

The Babylon Bee used to be a great source of religious satire, now it's just a humorless and joyless mouthpiece for Trump and his ilk.

So, what you are advocating is that we should never have "Stronger/ newer regulations" on anything because we already have laws for that. No more increased EPA fines or punishments to help the environment because it's already illegal to do most of the stuff. Gotcha.

Most protesters will not be impacted. So really not too big of a deal. Most protesters are not violent. The harassing people in public places probably needs to be a little more well defined though.

I suspect that the pro-life lobby will have input in that definition.

you may be right if this were january 2020. most of those protestors gave up by now though, and the whole entire movement has been taken over by violent criminals by now. and white lead by liberals with money and no jobs.

That's only what the media wants you to believe. They are heavily invested in fear porn. A great majority of people protesting are not violent, but the videos that get the most play in the media are the ones that are with violence or looting. And while those things are happening, it isn't to the scale the media portrays relative to the peaceful protests and demonstrations.

While those religious people with megaphones are annoying to me, I was thinking it is the very few instances of people going in restaurants and really encroaching on there physical space and shouting at them while they are trying to eat.

So we're specifically scoping this to restaurants now?

There's not much in this proposal that I do like (because Constitution), but the harassment aspect is really poorly defined.

Also, what would this do for a business that does bad stuff? Thinking back to protests in Charlotte outside Wells Fargo after they admitted basically committing fraud via the fake account scandal? Is that harassment? Who decides which is ok? If there are a thousand people out protesting and two people get in a fight with an officer, do the organizers of the protests now become RICO targets? It's a horrendous proposal that just muddies the waters more.

So if you are in a crowd and some jerk throws a brick you get arrested and held without bail as a felon. A press person gets arrested in a violent crowd and is arrested and charged as a felon. We've seen it happen before when the fog of police vs. protesters goes wrong.

Yes. That's on the police and they should be sued for wrongful arrest and detention. I'm not saying this doesn't open a new can of worms and can't backfire. I am saying that erring on the side of not letting violent ass holes have their way, isn't necessarily a bad thing. We've see the err go in the other direction to this point, and it's not working for a lot of places.

I still think we should hand out flamethrowers to the peaceful protesters and let them light rioters and looters on fire at first site.

Waste of time bill. Even Alito and Thomas won’t go for it.
This would also cover pro life protestors, right, and not just the Libs?

So you've seen widespread instances of pro-life protesters acting the way the mob is acting now? I highly doubt it. I don't care WHO is doing this crap, they should be arrested and punished for being selfish idiots. The bill will certainly get its shot at passing.

Here is another article. I didn't read this whole thread so maybe it is already posted.
I am all in favor in putting away violent protesters. Anybody that loots, anybody that destroys public property, or anybody destroys private private should be in prison a hell of a long time.

I'm somewhat curious about the "No Defund the Police" provision. So now the State Government has decided that it is the appropriate body to determine how a city or county will spend its' tax dollars?
Yet another attack on local, home rule, brought to you by the great government of the State of Florida.
