So we’re just going to take the kid’s word for it that this was an accident?
Going off an earlier thread, did they just get a life insurance policy on the mom recently?

All kidding aside, I hope the police are at least considering alternate explanations just in case. Was the child visible on screen at the time the shot was fired? Because it seems somewhat unlikely that a 21-month-old toddler who happens to pick up a gun is going to accidentally score a headshot. That’s a fairly small target to hit randomly.
If the shot came from off-camera then I would at least investigate the possibility that an adult shot her intentionally and tried to make it look like the child did it on accident.

If it really was the kid, this should never be spoken of in their presence. The kid will not remember this on their own. They can save the kid's life by never letting them know what happened.
We just work with the material the slavish devotion of the GOP to the NRA has given us.
