In our following the future update, we take a look each week during the season at how Iowa's commits are doing on the field, including our performance of the week. Join us throughout the season as we watch their progress and get ready for the future of Hawkeye football.

Performance of the week

Running back Toren Young continues to put up huge numbers week in and week out. In fact, Friday's performance might have been his best of the season so far with 33 carries for 337 yards and 3 touchdowns in Monona Grove's 31-17 win over Stoughton. Through 8 games, Young now has 222 carries for 1,723 yards and 17 touchdowns this season.

Other notable performances

Tight end T.J. Hockenson had a night to remember on Friday as his 3 touchdown catches pushed his career total to 48, which is an all-time record in the state of Iowa. Hockenson finished the game with 11 catches for 133 yards in all as Chariton beat Knoxville by a score of 41-26. Through 7 games, Hockenson has 67 catches for 944 yards and 16 touchdowns this season.

Running back Toks Akinribade had another big game on Friday with 29 carries for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns in Brownsburg's 47-24 win over Noblesville. Brownsburg has now won 3 games in a row after starting the season 1-4. Through 8 games, Akinribade has 184 carries for 1,203 yards and 15 touchdowns this season.

Moving back to wide receiver after filling in admirably at quarterback the last few weeks, Amani Hooker did not have as many fireworks on offense this week, but still found the end zone with a 20 yard rushing touchdown in Park Center's 21-7 win over Irondale. On defense, Hooker finished with 6 tackles and an interception. That gives him 9 interceptions through 7 games this season.

Quarterback Nathan Stanley was 6/16 passing for 84 yards and had a 1 yard touchdown run in Menomonie's 26-19 win over Chippewa Falls in overtime on Friday. It was the second overtime victory in a row for Menomonie as they improved to 6-2 and qualified for the playoffs. Through 8 games, Stanley has completed 58 of 112 pass attempts for 1,163 yards with 12 touchdowns and 3 interceptions this season.

Wide receiver Frank Darby had 3 catches for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns in Lincoln's 68-0 win over St. Anthony on Saturday. Through 5 games, Darby has 12 catches for 338 yards and 5 touchdowns this season.

Emmanuel Rugamba finished with 2 catches for 32 yards in Naperville Central's 41-10 win over Naperville North on Friday. Through 7 games, Rugamba has 34 catches for 511 yards and 5 touchdowns this season.

Kristian Welch led Iola-Scandinavia with 11 tackles in their 56-6 win over Pacelli on Friday. Welch also had 2 carries for 50 yards and 1 touchdown on offense.

Cedric Boswell had 10 carries for 63 yards and 1 touchdown in Birmingham Groves' 47-14 win over Berkeley on Friday. Birmingham Groves is now 7-0 on the season.

Offensive lineman Spencer Williams' Cedar Falls team only managed 60 yards rushing on Friday, but did have 243 yards through the air in their 31-24 loss to Linn-Mar. Cedar Falls is now 5-2 on the season.

Two way lineman Cole Banwart had 3 tackles and 1 sack and helped Algona gain more than 200 yards on the ground, but they suffered their second loss of the season in a 35-21 game against Boone on Friday. Through 7 games, Banwart has 32 tackles, 8 TFL, and 5 sacks this season.

Tight end Noah Fant finished with 1 catch for 15 yards on offense and 1 tackle on defense in Omaha South's 47-14 loss to Omaha North on Friday. Through 7 games, Fant has 41 catches for 512 yards and 7 touchdowns and 17 tackles, 6.5 TFL, and 3.5 sacks this season.

Class of 2017 defensive tackle commit Juan Harris had 2 TFL in North Fayette Valley's 49-28 win over Osage on Friday. Through 7 games, Harris has 19 tackles and 7 TFL this season.

Other notes: Wide receiver Devonte Young had his game postponed to Monday this week... On the injury front, Iowa commits Austin Schulte and Romeo McKnight will both miss the rest of the season after undergoing ACL surgery in September.
