Former Iowa TE named …

Why is it Trump voters never believe what Trump himself has said?

Well, it's certainly not all, it's more of a coalition of those that do and those that don't. And in some ways it defines the phenomenon of his success.

There are the hardcore believers, the rally attendees, the MAGAs, they wear the red hats, they think he's their protector and warrior, he was sent by god. They believe what Trump says, he'll restore America, stomp out the evil doers, and all the rest. These are predominately his primary voters.

Then there are the ones who are closer to normal humans. Closer to traditional Republicans. Disaffected Democrats. People who don't want to pay taxes. Ones who want the other party after high inflation and border dysfunction. These are the ones who don't actually believe the stuff Trump says. They think it's just political talk attract voters. He just says stuff, ya know? But when it comes down to it, he'll be normal and effective, like a good businessman!

I think for this second group the rationale is as simple as: I'm voting for him -> I wouldn't vote for a lunatic -> So he's not actually a lunatic.

Simplified, but two very different interpretations of their own candidate, but ends up with a significant portion of the country and sufficient to win. And also, I think it's important to recognize the makeup of this coalition when condemning all Trump voters as deplorable idiots or whatever.

The actual ones who should be condemned and I think more appropriately pitied, are his primary voters.

LOL, a guy I saw getting s**t faced at the Sports Column is now going to be manning a critical US foreign policy post. One that you'd think might go to someone with military or foreign policy experience...
Didn't he write , while in college, about having a Hawkeye tattoo in evidence and the prof saw it and thought he wouldn't be a good student.? He was bragging about the prof being wrong as he was one.

Also a former addict. Weird your ‘former’ clarifier falls on party lines
Well to be fair, one did continue to lie about a laptop not being his, and they did find a mysterious bag of drugs that just showed up at the White House so I do find one a little harder to believe. Doesn’t matter what party line is involved.

It sure is.
BTW RFK jr is a former addict. Let’s just hope he doesn’t relapse if he finds some drugs Hunter has/had stashed away in the White House or no other mysterious drugs show up at the White House.

I don't think you're ever a "former" heroin addict. Recovering maybe, but once an addict always an addict.

Great insight. Does former user work for you?
How is it that so many of you miss the point when focusing in on the wrong details?

Probably because you're focused on why I don't see your point instead of focusing on clearly communicating the point.

My intention was crystal clear, having a history of intravenous drug abuse is a terribly low standard of character for high ranking government officials and that standard has been wholly accepted by a lot of people(including you it seems). So at least the new ambassador to NATO has never main-lined horse.

Or you just choose to see the negative in people. You must not believe in giving people a second chance. It’s a shame because I feel like your party is geared towards that.

I don't think RFKj has ever lacked second chances or that my opinion has any bearing on the issue.

I do however think that these high ranking positions can probably be filled without choosing people with so much baggage, like sexual assault and enjoying needle drugs. You clearly do not, which is your perogative. Mine is to point out that I think that your perspective is fundamentally flawed and serves only to lower standards.

I’m going to wait and see what happens when these peeps are in office before making any judgement.
On paper it doesn’t look great but I’ve seen things that look great on paper and turn out to be a disaster. Time will tell.

Fair-ish, there are of course potentially huge problems with being wholly reactionary when it comes to placing people into power positions of consequence.

We don't want people whose education and experience makes them qualified for the most important jobs anymore. Fealty to the Dear Leader is really the only important qualification.

It sure seems that way, or at the very least the voters for the coming administration have a whole lot more of the Jesus take the wheel mentality about government than they would about hiring a nanny for their own children.
