Fran Content

He's not content but you know he was not going to say anything to get print in a very negative way.
He had to answer the question but probably did not say what his true feelings are.

There is no question that Fran is PO'd. Let's just hope he can figure out what to do next. Because this is not looking good.

What is he supposed to say? Rip the team? Say they underachieved ? failure of a season ? they dont deserve to be in the tournament? hope Moss, Cook, and Dailey leave at year end?

When he answered that question of what he thought about 10-10 in the B1G and he answered "tremendous".......it sounds to me like he is content with the current state. That's not good........
For a coach who has barely won 49% of conference games in 9 years... 10-10 is ‘tremendous’ in his eyes.

Iowa basketball will never be elevated under this staff. This IS as good as it gets under Fran. After 9 years of watching the same movie over and over.... hoping the ending will be different ... Fran will eventually be fired... But only at Iowa where we have an inept AD and a non-sports President, will Fran keep his job 5 years longer than he should.

Good lord, drama.........no, he is not supposed to say those things. Those ridiculous things you said in your post have nothing to do with what I said in the op. However, anything other than "trememdous". How about, "I'm not satisfied" or "We need to play better" or "We have some important games coming up and need to improve" or "We as coaches need to put our players in better position to win"........or..........There are so many things he could have said. The players are grown men who can accept "team" criticism. I understand not throwing an individual player under the bus, but it's ok to have some critical things to say about the way the "team" is playing. Otherwise, nothing will change.

Well, the knock on Fran is the end of year meltdowns. This is the 3rd time at least a special season was spoiled due to becoming the worst team in the BIG 10 late. There is no reason we ever should lose the last 5. Inferior teams like RU and NU took it to us and we pissed down our leg. Not even competitive against an inferior OSU team (on the road) or WISKY. I can get losing to them but man alive we didn't show up at all. Then get beat by a couple sub 500 teams. Good teams need to play their best ball late and that is when Fran's team's have died a painful death. The thing is that this has been a trend and MUST be addressed. But I don't think he will or knows how to save changing up his assistants. If we can't learn to play adequate defense every night we will continue to get killed in this league.

Iowa got absolutely clowned yesterday. There is nothing else to say. Nebraska had a severely depleted roster and it got worse as the game progressed and they beat Captain Sideways with his full compliment of players. The players are not guiltless here. Other than Bohannon, Garza and Wieskamp I am not sure I would bring anybody else back next year if that was an option. Bohannon plays his ass off but once again Fran doesn't have the right supporting cast around him. So sick of seeing Iowa look slow and un-athletic. It's hard to see them play with absolutely zero passion but again, this is to be expected from a Fran team.

We are adding a 6-9 175lb wing. That will make us quicker and better defensively under Fran! Haha yeah right, we will be slower next year.

No but it would be nice, just for once, just to hear something REAL, where one of our coaches comes out and say that they expect more.

Not just a bunch of hyperbole, and "aw shucks, rainbows and unicorns, that's football/basketball" coach speak.

Couldn't have said it any better then this.
Fran is his worse enemy in his loyal ways. Until he gets at least 2 of his assistants to retire, Kirk and Sherman would be a good start, these basketball meltdowns will continue because no one including Fran has a clue how to stop them.
3 promising seasons under Fran have turned sour at the end of those seasons with late season meltdowns and all with different players.
Fran and his staff are the common denominator in everyone of them. I'd say it's a good bit that if you look there, you'd find the problem.

Being critical to the media about your players after blowing a big league and losing 4/5 isnt going to do anything. Players are down enough.

We add Joe Toussaint, CJ Fredrick, PMac, Cordell Pemsl and Jack Nunge to the mix next year. Add that to some of our upper classmen and I think we are better next year. Our guard court MUST improve.

If it looks like a duck it is a duck. If it quacks like a duck it is a duck, If they look slow they are slow. If they look un-athletic they are un-athletic.

Yes. "Tremendous" was the wrong answer by a mile.

Remember when Iowa would win by 20 and the opposing team would try to score late and it would upset Fran? Fast forward to when Iowa is getting owned and his boy pushes the ball up to fire a 3 pointer t the buzzer down 23.

I’m sure that upsets Fran too.

You are clueless. Fran wasn’t upset about the other teams trying to score. Fran was upset when the other teams tried (one did) to steal the ball when Iowa clearly called the dogs off not even attempting a shot. Keep making stuff up though. It should make you feel better about having to deal with Fran next year.

It's not like he hasn't been on the losing end of a game that Iowa had a big lead against Nebraska before. Evidently his memory has forgotten the 16 point lead Iowa had at Nebraska on Feb 23, 2013, at half time, a 10 point lead under 10 minutes left and lost by 4, 64-60. McCabe 23 min, had 2 points, Basabe 18 min, had 2 points, Woodbury 9 min, & Oglesby 14 min, had zip, Clemmons 10 min, had 3, and Gasel 30 min, had 6. Somethings never change!

Yup, I would rather see a 6'1" quick true PG that can run the show, penetrate and take some of the pressure off Bohannon. I believe that is all we were missing this year was a quick 6'1" smart, penetrating floor general. It would have prevented teams from getting up in Jordan's jock strap and would have freed him up some. This year, once teams saw the recipe on tape, unless Iowa was shooting well, defending them was an easy task. It was probably a few days off for some coaches getting ready to play Iowa.......I wouldn't be surprised if they took a little mini-vacation leading up to the game. :)

We are all hoping Joe T is that guy! I think he will be a huge addition to the team next year. Already very much anticipating it!
Joe & Joe & JBo, with Moss & Cook/Garza will be a good lineup, me thinks

they were competing until the end when game was out of reach. That is what Connor was doing taking a late 3pt shot that did not matter.

It’s not that complicated. You’re not comparing the same situation. Had ND and ISU went down and tried to score, it wouldn’t have been a problem. I’m pretty sure ND did just score.

What pissed off Fran and the Iowa players with ISU, was that both teams had called the dogs off and Iowa was dribbling out the clock. One guy runs over and tried to steal the ball. That’s the issue. Now if Connor just stole the ball prior to his three, then I apologize, but I don’t recall that being the case.

What’s funny is, everyone was saying how bush league Iowa St looked. Now that we all hate Fran and Connor by association, we’re changing how we feel about it and comparing two different scenarios.

You are just as clueless if you think what Iowa (CM) did and what ND/ISU did.

Tom and Matt mentioned during the HR Podcast today that sometimes Fran is a "little over the top" with hyperbole.
