Fran trending

Lol hardly a Fran issue. We had a nice run under Davis with George’s players, then a lot of 1 and done until his final year. Alford was just so-so going to the tourney 3/8 years, never advancing to the S16. Then (name redacted) bottomed the program out.

I understand the want for a coaching change but we aren’t going to reach out to the Bruce Pearl or Steve Forbes types. It would be someone who doesn’t even play in the gray areas.

With NIL and the transfer portal, you’d hope iowa would loosen up some. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on who you ask, Iowa will remain to be Iowa.

Yeah, Luka and Keegan were the result of dumb and lazy recruiting. Idiotic post.
I agree that recruiting isn't the thing to go after Fran about after the past 2 seasons. The fact we have nothing but a consolation trophy and some individual awards to show for the guys you mentioned is. Get to the s16 or get the f*ck out. March madness is what they are supposed to be playing for all season

I know.... But Lickliter....

I lean toward luck.

Luka was a solid 4 star recruit but no one could have predicted what he became.

Keegan was even more unpredictable.

And what was accomplished with these All American players?

.....crickets....
I can't deny the elephant in the room is lack of NCAA tournament success under Fran. However, I don't believe it's due to recruiting. I don't believe Fran's recruiting is luck either. He got Luka to commit over a number of schools closer to home for him. He got Keegan and Kris when nobody else wanted them. Fran's clearly got an eye for talent.

If you want to go after Fran for something, go after his in-game coaching, game plan, rotations, 2 foul rule, etc.

Yes, I am upset that we (once again) did not make it out of the first weekend of the NCAA tourney. With that said, I am happy with everything else Fran accomplished this year..it was a fun ride up until Thursday. I do want to say one thing about Keegan and Kris. And, only they and Papa could confirm this, but I honestly believe they would have ended up at Iowa no matter who the coach was. Kenyon was a legacy at Iowa and I believe they wanted to follow in Dad's footsteps. Now, of course if another major had offered when Iowa did not...they would have probably gone there.....but looking back, I don't think there is ANYWAY Fran was not going to offer them.

Purdue had this issue, maybe not to the same extent.
Big step winning the BTT for Fran and Co. Would be easier to take if we consistently have a chance to win the regular season.

I’m continually shaking my head at some of you, and it’s not just people in this thread 12 of last 14 B1G games means NOTHING if you:

1) didn’t win the conference
2) got bounced by a 12 seed

I’m not kidding - if other rivals puffed their chest about this the same posters would be laughing at them. It’s just weird.

Anybody see Iowa State’s freshman point guard literally refuse to let them lose last night??? If we ranked the top ten guards of the last decade between iowa state and iowa I’m thinking Iowa State has nine of the ten. Morris, Thomas, Long, Kane, Hunter, Brockington, Wigginton, Dejean-Jones. Iowa would have Marble in there, but he wasn’t even really a guard. Iowa has had amazing players at the 3 to 5 though.

Fran has taken Iowa to the dance 7 of the last 9 years, which is pretty consistent. Obviously he hasn't turned the corner to advance past the first weekend, which is the issue.

I'm counting the canceled covid year because Iowa would have been in and that was probably the year Iowa goes far. AIBBHG.

So the Murray twins would have been Hawks unless McCaffery didn't recruit them, and then they would have gone elsewhere. Good to know. So does that mean he shouldn't get credit for recognizing they could play at this level, when so many others didn't? Same with so many of McCaffery's great players. We just got lucky with Aaron White, Peter Jok, Luka Garza, etc?

I'm not sure anyone is thumping their chest over the string Iowa put together at the end of the season, including winning the BTT, but there are a shitload of other teams that would have happily accepted those accomplishments. That game with Richmond is a bitter pill to choke down after it looked as if we were finally due for some NCAA success. As a Cub fan, I am more than familiar with the concept of "Wait until next year!" bur, frankly, I'm getting pretty tired of waiting. Some things need to change.

Is Fran an above average coach for b1g? Yes, slightly above 0.500. Is he a great coach? Not yet, what he's done is closer to median of Iowa coaches. His lack of NCAA success does stand out.

I think LIckliter would have taken the Murray twins---fit his recruiting MO of staying close to home. Let us also not forget that Fran had whiffed on all his other front line targets including missing on the instate target Foster Give Fran credit for keeping the dialog open with Kenyon and having open eyes to look at the improvement they had made.

The two twins grew 3 inches after High School and their game developed. That was unforseeable to Fran and he passed on them out ouf High School...but not to Kenyon who checked with physicians that said the twins were not done growing. Kenyon Murray was instrumental at the prep school, their development and shopping them to Fran. Yes Fran deserves credit for taking both, but the two boys are Iowa legacies...the only reason they were shopped to fran is they grew up in Iowa and were loyal to the program is coach Davis before Fran and the twin's parents.

Fran's recruiting has been better the last few years...he isn't going anywhere unless he wants to. If he leaves on his own accord, go for it. Over time, I would expect similar to better results from the next guy.

Its at least partly due to not having good enough point guards.

Hes certainly identified enough of them but hasn't landed any.

Maybe Bowen will be.

Ulis would be a good guard if he can come up with a jump shot.
