French President Francois Hollande today promised that “France will remain a country of freedom,” defending his decision to honor a commitment to accept migrants and refugees despite Friday’s deadly terrorist attacks in Paris.

“Life should resume fully,” Hollande told a gathering of the country’s mayors, who gave him a standing ovation. “What would France be without its museums, without its terraces, its concerts, its sports competitions?

“France should remain as it is. Our duty is to carry on our lives.”

In the same spirit, he added, “30,000 refugees will be welcomed over the next two years. Our country has the duty to respect this commitment,” explaining that they will undergo vigorous security checks.

Hollande noted that “some people say the tragic events of the last few days have sown doubts in their minds,” but called it a “humanitarian duty” to help those people … but one that will go hand in hand with “our duty to protect our people.”

“We have to reinforce our borders while remaining true to our values,” he said.

While I have serious issues with France's lack of religious freedom I will say this.

Apparently France is far braver then most Republicans. They took a terrorist attack themselves and can still see the forest through the trees and are willing to try to save refugee's from ISIS.

In the US we have people so scared of a terrorist attack that they are willing to leave thousands of people hung out to dry to be killed by ISIS because of their cowardice.

So allowing terrorist to blend with refugees to get into a country is brave?? You are making the assumption that ISIS is killing many of their people. Are you talking Christians?? Are they getting killed or is it just that they are in the middle of a civil war?

Most of those refugees are also people that ISIS wants to kill. No one is allowing a terrorist to blend in, we are vetting these people as best we can.

Choosing to refuse to protect people from someone who's trying to kill them when we can protect them because there is a slight chance that 1 of them might be a terrorist is COWARDLY.

1 terrorist slips in and kills at best a couple hundred people if he's lucky, most likely he gets caught and kills no one. This is 10,000 people. Why are our lives worth more then theirs?

I'm still at higher chance of being killed by a freaking cow then being killed by a terrorist. I'm at even more threat of being killed by a violent felon with an illegal gun he bought from a straw purchaser because these same republicans insist that we can't register and track these guns.

If I have a list of things that I'm afraid of killing me, terrorism is pretty darn low on my list.

You might actually have a point on this if you were talking about Europe, where this is a legitimate concern. Going through the refugee relocation process, which takes as long as two years for admittance to the US, is about the least likely way for a terrorist to go about entering the US. It is time consuming, cumbersome, and offers the easiest way for the terrorist to be caught of any possible way they might try to enter the US.
