Fran's Tech. Foul Gave Ind. 2 Points For Winning Margin

When Fran got whistled for technical foul in first half, I
said that would come back to bite him. Indiana made
the 2 free throws and that was the margin of victory.
So Fran's unruly behavior cost the Hawkeyes another win.

that and his idiotic sit with 2 foul rule. If you can’t trust the National player of the year to play few minutes without fouling who can you trust? That is what truly cost us however I thought same thing about the T after game was over.

But so many experts on this board say his warranting a T was needed and he is just fighting for his guys. Not sure how giving the other team free points is a good strategy

The Technical was on a CMAC play trying to draw a charge. That is often is a 50/50 play went against CMAC. Papa couldn't take it. At least he didn't go on postgame rant like the game at OSU where CMAC took a hit to the head and they both got mad.

Iowa did get raped in 1st half by refs, but it was late in the half to get a technical and give up 2 pts. Iowa needs more guys that can take it to the rack and put onus on officials to call fouls on Indiana. Fran hasn't recruited those type athletes in past years and the only ones on this year's team are mostly on the bench.

This is exactly the kind of thing some fans ridicule guys like PJ Fleck for. My buddy said good for Fran....was like are you serious? Doesn't matter if it was a bad call or not. Giving them free throws is idiotic.

50/50? GTFO. That was as clear as a charge as it gets.

No. They called it didn’t they? Idiotic.. doesn’t really matter if you put the officials in a position where they felt it warranted a T.

Yeah, they also felt that the obvious arm extended warranted a blocking call too. But you claiming what’s idiotic and what isn’t, when you have absolutely no clue what happened is strange to say the least.

I have no problem with Fran speaking up. I’ve heard some pretty harsh words come out of other coaches that didn’t draw a T and Fran gets one for saying less. Sometimes a T fires up a team but it’s obvious nothing fires up these guys.

To be fair after 11 years of franball I'm guessing many in this fanbase have forgotten what a charge looks like. We rarely take them, another indication of how soft the team is

Well in that case it was a correct call then?

How many times have you seen a team respond by playing at a different level after the coach gets a "T", even though it usually results in the other team getting the (temporary) advantage of a couple of extra points?

About as many as I’ve seen the other team pull ahead further. Would be interesting to see some research on results of the next 10 minutes of the game after a technical. I did a quick google search but nothing jumped out for results.

The technical didn't cost Iowa the game, and Fran needed to do some bitching to the zebras about the officiating at the time. Sitting Luka for over half of the first half, instead of stepping on IU when we had them down, did impact the outcome a lot. I hate sitting guys for long periods with 2 fouls. We needed Luka on the floor, so someone other than Weesy could score.

That might be overthinking it. But I can confidently say that, much more often than not, it results in a significantly higher level of play from the team and a drastically upgraded level of competence from the officials.

Maybe, but as stated I’ve seen just as many times where a team loses control and plays like sh*t as they get too focused on officiating.

Officials always tend to even out fouls so that might have some validity

McCabe, Gesell and Baer all took their fair share of charges but they were also three of the tougher, physical players during Fran's tenure and likely learned that before they got to Iowa.

The body language of the team the last few games has not been good. If Fran hasn't lost the team, he will with a loss tomorrow. He has definitely lost the fan base. My friends that have been Fran apologists have seen the light. Losses will mount and Fran will get tossed soon (maybe tomorrow).

Yep, the other 39 minutes and 40 seconds played no part in it
