I keep seeing these super non-stick frying pans advertized on TV. Some say they are coated in diamonds or ceramic or copper and guarantee nothing will stay in the pan. Who has tried them and do you recommend them?

I have a set of six ceramic skillets. They are great for some things, but not so great for others. And you do need to use oil in them, as the oil performs functions other than preventing the food from sticking. Eggs cooked in butter and bacon fat cook much faster and taste much better than eggs cooked in a dry skillet. The coating allows you to use less oil for some things.
Like any cookware, do not put them in the dishwasher, even if the packaging says “dishwasher safe.”

My wife could ruin one of those space age pans with one attempt at scrambled eggs, or grilled cheese.

FYI, I will be breaking out the cast iron tonight for some scalded cornbread. The bacon fat awaits.

I just saw the ad for the copper one. Going to buy it.

I just changed my mind. .Saved about 20 bucks. Found some reviews of the thing. Apparently everything in the ad is total bullshit.

I use a ceramic pan all the time. It works great, but you do need oil. The teflon ones I had go bad fast. The stuff starts to come up. I agree with the cast iron. I am looking to get one myself

I bought an orgreenic from Rite Aid, and was trying to cook an egg in it, and it wouldn't even stay in the pan to cook! it just jumped out onto the stovetop yoke and all...

I use a hand mixer while cooking in these skillets all the time... it's really the only utensil I use now after watching the commercial. ;)

But really, I have 3 cast iron skillets and a calphalon cookware set. I use any of the cast iron a majority of the time. Just take care of it and it will last forever.

I honestly couldn't tell you what kind of pans we got for a wedding gift about 6 years ago but whatever they are I'm pretty happy with them.

wow, an "as seen on TV" item that doesn't work??

i'm shocked!
Over the years I've bought probably 20 things "as seen on TV" and maybe three of them were mistakes. We're still using several things we bought from infomercials 40 years ago.

Cast iron is absolutely the best. You can also use stainless steel cookware and season it, but it takes a bit more skill to minimize sticking for eggs and things. But it's what all the professional chefs use.

Just curious what are your top 3 "as seen on TV" product purchases are?

I don't think I have actually ordered anything off of a commercial, but I have bought a few items at B,B&B. (I'm sure it was a nice little Saturday :)) But I don't think anything that I got was worth it. My parent's bought that silicon spray that the fat guy sprays on a screen door on the bottom of a boat and said it worked. I'm not sure how long it will last though.

I have the green one. Works well for cooking eggs. Saw the copper one last night while watch some tv. They melt a mint in a wrapper and just wipe it out. Looked a little out there.

Cast iron is almost always the way to go, I have several of them and they are beautifully seasoned.......but.....don't tell anyone......I have a cheap 'ol T-fal pan that I use a lot when I want super non-stick......it is idiot proof as can be has copper deals that distribute heat very well and super easy clean up.

Yep; when you're in a hurry, teflon is ok. The main problem people have with stainless or cast iron is not allowing the pan to fully heat up, and adding in stuff a little more slowly to prevent sticking. You lose the non-stick when you don't have them fully warmed, or put too much in that cools down the surface too much.

Cast iron makes fantastic pancakes because the surface heats so evenly.

The absolute best for all-purpose cooking is enameled cast iron, specifically Le Creuset cookware. Easier to clean in most cases than Teflon. Lasts freaking forever. There's a reason that every high-class cooking show uses it.....and since they don't identify it or sell it, the reason isn't that they're getting paid to do it.

Regular old-fashioned cast iron would be in second place. I think there's just one company in America that makes it now, but I could be wrong about that.

The two best are a wok and a mandoline; after that, maybe a hamburger press.
