I found this on Dan Gable's Wikipedia page. Is the mat.com crowd so low that they're trolling Gable's Wikipedia page?

"Although Gable was not permitted to wrestle on the varsity wrestling squad during his freshman year, his only recorded high school loss was during his freshman year when he lost an unofficial match to teammate Matt Leamon.[6] [Citation needed]."
Or does this means the great Cael was not undefeated as widely rumored?

No way to know for sure, but this has all the stench of "hurricane," a long time and predictable Iowa hater (and surprise...a psu supporter) from themat forums. He vehemently argued this on themat forums several years back.

Here are the essentials. Gable did lose in a 9th grade match. But that was while he was in junior high, not high school. Many Iowa schools had junior highs that covered grades 6 through 9. The Des Moines schools were all that way. They were completely separate from high schools - they did not train or compete with them, and the records were all kept separate.

Reading that Gable "never lost a match in high school or college until the last collegiate match" was painful for hurricane, so he would repeatedly say it was false, by combining Gable's Jr HS loss with his real HS record.

Pathetic really.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know for sure how the Waterloo school district worked that then, but, as you said, Des Moines began high school back in the 60s in 10th grade and I assumed West did too. I assumed this was themat.com crowd andI was shocked that one of these losers would add this to Gable's Wiki bio. Very hard to believe a person could be so shallow and petty.

Pablo, I couldn't find that quote on the Gable wikipedia page - where did you see it? Has it been removed, or did I miss it? I did see this:

<<Competing for Waterloo West High School, Gable posted a 64-0 high school record en route to winning three Iowa state scholastic championships.[3]>>

This jibes with every official bio on Gable that I've ever read. The loss echoed by the jackals on themat was not in HS competition, but rather in Jr HS.

It's been removed. My quote was a cut and paste from Wikipedia yesterday morning.

Didn't Cael wrestle at Iowa St.? This has nothing to do with Penn St. Einstein.
Didn't Gable wrestle at Iowa State too? And he coached at Iowa and that is why we are even talking about it on an Iowa board. The same reason we have people trolling Penn State fans on an Iowa board about Cael.
