Game ball to AJ Epenesa and DL...

ISU sold out to stop Iowa's running game and did a good job. Stanley's passing was less than desirable, almost self destructive. The TEs played well, helping Stanley's stats because Stanley threw a lot of behind the receiver passes. Stanley went for a home run ball to Nick Easley who did not run hard all the way and missed the connection. Stanley could have easily run 7 plus yards for a first down. Stanley needs to recognize when he can run because that will help his passing game. It' s time the light went on for this true junior.

AJ Epenesa exposed how bad Sean Foster truly is in strength and toughness. Multiple holds all thru the game.

P!$$ poor Big 12 officiating crew, IMHO! The Iowa TD drive was almost stalled by a sideline judge at least yards aways from the play down versus a back judge who was right on the line and saw Hockerson land on the line.

Iowa’s defensive backs didn’t have their names called a ton, but that’s a good thing in this case. Considering how much we heard about Butler and their TE’s, they really did a whole lot of nuthin today.

I agree with your assessment of the DLine, and would add Ojemudia and Colbert to players who showed out today... isn’t Colbert like a redshirt freshman? He’s going to be a beast. And Ojemudia was almost lockdown in coverage (he was right there for the tackle on all completions) but I was even more impressed with his help in run support

Colbert was a beast as well. Game ball. Ojemudia is starting to be a threat but he had a chance at a deflect pass interception. There was a pick six in the air. Hooker deserved a game ball for his coverage of Butler. Defense was good. Offense still a mess outside RBs.

Colbert was definitely the breakout player of the game.

The defense was lights out and did a terrific job of bottling up Montgomery. The offence is still a work in progress but will improve as the season progresses.

Eppy has made it a habit of coming up with a big play at least once a game. His strip sacks are a thing of beauty. Still has work to do in playing the run. But NFL player personnel managers are probably already taking notice of what he can do as an edge rusher.

That was breathtaking at the end of the game when ISU had to pass. He has the combination of power and athleticism you just don't teach. Now being combined with more strength and technique and wow. Plus the awareness and ability to go for the ball when he gets close to the QB. 2 sacks, FF, batted down pass, 2 holds drawn. What else did I miss? This is what it is like to get a 5-star talent and let him develop.

Certainly Epenesa is special but where did colbert come from? He threw quite the wrench into Campbell's plans no doubt. Certainly surprised the heck out of me in a good way. Phil parker and his animals carried Iowa today returning the favor to Brian Ferentz for generating the win for us last year.

Didn’t he even play safety in high school? Very impressive.

Agree... so impressed with #32 - the next stud LB at Iowa? Sniffs out the run attack so well... him and DL shutting down Montgomery today was huge.

The D line makes everyone else look good. They are a force. We were much stouter in the middle then I expected.

The O line didn't create much running room.

Fant is our only play maker on offense.

Hockenson earned some applause. Stanley is late and not leading his receivers well.

The front is even better than I expected. We knew that was a strength, but they've improved over my expectations. The secondary is balling right now. We know their names, but no one else does. Phil Parker, we're confident there. Today I was impressed with the LB corps. Big strides from last week. Did we play a lot of nickel with a safety and/or Colbert today or did I just drink too heavily at the sports bar?

The more I watch our Dline the less I worry bout Taylor and Bucky's Oline. I think we school 'em on Sept 22
