Was just looking through Iowa's All-Americans in basketball. The last 1st-team All-American Iowa had was Ronnie Lester. He was also the only 2-time 1st-team All-American Iowa has ever had. If Luka returns next year, he'd likely be the only other Hawkeye to ever be a 2-time 1st-team All-American. Since 1980, Iowa has had only two players receive All-America honors: Andre Woolridge 3rd team AA and Jared Uthoff 2nd-team AA. Luka will be the first first-team All-American in exactly 40 years.
By the way, Luka will be Fran's second AA player in his tenure. Lickliter, Alford, and Raveling never had any. Tom Davis and Lute Olson had one each. Ralph Miller was the last Iowa coach to have multiple AAs play for him -- he had 3 guys in his 6 years of coaching at Iowa in the late 1960s and early 1970s (!!!).
If Luka Garza wins any of the national player of the year awards, he'll be the first Iowa player to ever do so. Just wanted to put what Luka's doing this year in historical perspective.
