Garza the last to wear #55

Man how I wish covid wasn't a thing so Carver could be packed with fans to witness this great moment
That's and awesome moment.... Garza completely caught off guard.

Even better to get the win, so he could enjoy the moment!

fans missed out on a lot this season; and don't feed the troll (Chis) who comes over here from HROT to create duplicate threads

I hadn't thought about this until now, but retiring his # is the right choice, and the only choice. Well done and congrats Luka!

This is AWESOME no one has worked harder to earn this! Congrats Luka, you deserve this! I don’t know if it’s the Pompeii talking, but the video with Luka and Fran talking got me a little choked up!

totally agree.

Luka is everything you could hope for in a student athlete, the grace and poise he displayed in handling the pressure off the court was as impressive to me as what he did on the court. Watching him grow over the past 5 seasons has been one of the true pleasures of my near 4 decades of being a sports fan. I'll never forget how lucky we've been to have him, haven't been this passionate about Iowa basketball since I was a student season ticket holder over 20 years ago. Thank you, LG!

Certainly hope the school plans something for next season when fans are at Carver to bring Luka and the other seniors back for a re-do. Kid deserves the fan’s adoration.

Right. He was also #55 and could make the claim to being as good as Luka. His blocks records will never be broken, and he is still #4 career scoring I believe.

Its hard to beat 2x National Player of the Year, 2x Consensus AA & the school's all time scorer.

1 Luka Garza...2,180 (4 yrs: 2018-2021, 122 GP, .545 FG%, 17.9 ppg; 112 three pt goals)

2 Roy Marble...2,116 (4 yrs: 1986-1989, 134 GP, .539 FG%, 15.8 ppg; 26 three pt goals)

3 Aaron White...1,859 (4 yrs: 2012-2015, 140 GP, .517 FG%, 13.3 ppg; 61 three pt goals)

4 Acie Earl...1,779 (4 yrs: 1990-1993, 116 GP, .508 FG%, 15.3 ppg; 2 three pt goals)

I think for #10 they said they retired the jersey not the number. I don't recall anyone wearing it after BJ until Gessel.

I wouldn’t retire any numbers (Street being exception).

hang jerseys that their name and school logo on them.

Right. He was also #55 and could make the claim to being as good as Luka. His blocks records will never be broken, and he is still #4 career scoring I believe.
True enough, BUT as Barta pointed out its likely Luka will be (at keast by several publications) back to back national player of the year, and a two time consensus AA. The last guy who won those accolades was some guy named MJ, and obviously NO ONE at Iowa......

Thank you Luka for being our All American and for breaking and setting records that future Hawkeyes will aim for. Most of all, thank you for being an outstanding example for Iowa basketball, and your tireless dedication to be the best you can be.
