Gavitt Games

Marquette leading Illinois 28-27 at the half.

Illinois has 15 turnovers.

Shaka Smart has brought his pressing defense to Marquette which isn’t helping the Illini’s guards, but they’ve had these issues the first few games too.

It was probably optimistic to assume that a turnover prone player would learn to control his tendencies with more responsibility as the lone PG.

Frazier has really stepped up in this game. Only player on the floor who’s kept his head through the madness.

And it’s not the Gavitt games, but I just looked and Penn St is losing at UMass by 16.

illanoy is a turnover machine tonight. Up to 20 now with 6+ minutes left. Yet still leading by 5. Poor shooting on both sides, but marquette worse, under 40% and 25% from 3.

They clearly need to take more responsibility away from Curbelo. Kofi will help there, but good God. Can’t shoot, turnover prone. He’s killing them.

That pass was so soft the defense had time to recover to the shot to force the violation. Illinois has a massive problem beyond this game.

Wow Curbelo sucks at the 1. If they don’t shore up the backcourt, our press is going to cause major problems. Given what I just saw from Illinois on the road in Milwaukee, I like Iowa’s chances at home.

Just realized DJ Carton was no longer with Marquette. In the G League after a year at both OSU and Marquette.

That may have been as bad a performance at the point I have seen in a while. I was also under the assumption that Curbelo would take over for Ayo and not miss a beat. For the Illini's sake, they better hope that was an anomaly and not the norm.

Never mention those 2 in the same breath. Curbelo is no where near the player that Ayo was, and I really don't like Ayo but I respect his abilities. Curbelo is a crafty ball handler but a little too overconfident. And he’s small.

There are few players that I can say that I really dislike, but Davison is in that group. Maybe he's not as bad as that tool Grayson Allen was at Duke, but I don't think he's far off.
Can’t say I ever liked Grayson at Duke, but at least he’s a good basketball player. Davison is just like a goon in hockey. Out there to be chippy and hurt people

Was expecting Wisconsin to have some young guy step up and look the part. They’re missing some important guys, but I’m not even seeing the potential amongst their group tonight.

Never really liked Gard’s eye for talent or development.

We all hate them, but most Wisconsin teams win that game. Providence didn't play that well and completely ignored their best player in the 2nd half. That Wisconsin team didn't have 1 difference maker. Not 1.

Gard is in serious trouble after the offseason and last year's disappointment.

I think what it showed is that the Illini had 2 big stars last year in Ayo and Cockburn. One left and the other didn't play tonight. Without Cockburn in there they aren't a great team.
