Doesn't matter. They are both pretty quick. Mike Gesell is so good at seeing the driving lane that he's by you before you even had a chance to foul. Such good recognition of what the defense was doing tonight. There was no time for Marquette to provide help. And it's not like he does it at the end of the shot clock hoping for a foul. He drives as soon as it's open without hesitation

It's interesting to see him go from a midrange pull up player to someone who can now finish at the rim. Maybe it's experience. I don't know but I like it.

Last year he ran this offense well as a pass first pg. He's elevating the rest of his game this year and so far this year it looks like he has better players to distribute to. That's probably evident by the increase in assists. He's playing at a high level this year. This team right now has good guard play and everyone knows what that means in college basketball.

It's experience and he got hitch, he's mature and poise for a great last season.

The thing with Mikey is that he's found the point where he can be a smart player without overthinking everything.

I guess you could say he's developed great instincts, if that's possible.

Mike's interesting in that who do you compare him too? He kinda does it all. Love his defense tonight and really for the last couple years he's been solid defensively. Guy seems to be really feeling confident in almost all facets. Too bad he didn't stick a few more pull-ups tonight as I think those are all good shots.

Closest comparison I can think of is Dean Oliver. Similar size and skill set. Mike keeps his eyes up the floor a bit better on the break and is better with the midrange pull-up jumper. Dean shot a few more three balls than Mike does now and was just slightly a better jumper. I remember at midnight madness back in 1999 or 2000 where Dean had a between the legs dunk in the dunk contest, something that I don't think Mike can do. Mike has finally developed the ability to drive the lane and successfully finish at the rim that reminds me an awful lot of Dean. They also had similar defensive abilities and high assists with limited turnovers.

I thought Mike kind of got to feeling the hot hand after he made a couple and started firing up poor shots. If he doesn't do that his percentage would have been around 50% Played a great game in other phases too.
