Great kid and great hawk but god that was brutal at the end of that game yesterday. Love the kids heart but that is a very disappointing performance from a senior in that situation. Can someone please tell Fran to maybe try something different at the end of half/game situations. Mike is about 0-57 in his career on that one.

With that said, time to regroup and get right. Team has some serious skill but need to get some mojo back. All will be forgotten with a long NCAA run.

Worst end of game performer I have ever seen in any sport. He should not even be on the bench in end of game situations, he should be sent to the locker room to guarantee he doesn't find a way to screw things up. Cannot wait until he is gone.

Hate to beat a dead horse here but this is correct.
MG just shouldnt be involved in late game situations. Period

Amazing how the general tone of this board has changed towards the kid. 4 years ago he was all-world and the best thing that could ever have happened to iowa basketball short of Woodbury signing.

I'm not going to sit hear and verbally beat up on a kid that has given all he can to his team over the years! What does concern me is that Fran has continually put him in these situations and never learns form this!! Mike obviously has some mental issue with how to handle the end of game situations.... so Fran HELP the kid out and draw up a different way to execute these end of game situations!!! We have seen this now for 4 years and I can't believe that he still feels that Mike having the ball at the end is his best option!! Love the Kid and the Hawks but come on Fran try something else PLEASE!!!!!

True but somehow he defied logic and became a worse shooter and ball handler after 4 years.

Don't forget to add his decision making is inexplicable as a point guard. The problem I see with MG is between the ears, he either over thinks situations or believes he is some kind of super athlete. But, whatever it is I am glad it is about over watching him fail on a fairly regular basis.

Certainly no debating the Hawks lack of late half/game execution, I just have a hard time placing all the blame on Mike due to the fact we have very few ball handlers to replace him & he seems to have very few options to give the ball up. Obviously, the goal should be to get the ball to Uthoff as quick as possible once across half court, maybe just as simple as a dribble handoff? With regard to the inbound pass at the end, he had literally zero options to through the ball in as everyone stood still until Uhl flared out top & perhaps no timeouts remaining (i dont recall). In hindsite he should have lobbed at 50/50 ball to Uthoff as he was closer to basket & perhaps could have gotten a shot off but again lets not act like he is missing open guys.

The offense routinely struggles when Mike goes to the bench during the game & team turnovers go up. In both the Michigan & Illini game the team was just as likely to turnover the ball as they were to even get a shot off when he went to the bench.

I get the angst around MG and late game situations, but who else does he go to? MG should not be out there on an island time and time again, but we have no other ball handlers. True he has not delivered in these situations, but I liken it to Damon Bullock's role of being the check down guy on 3rd and long and catching a 2 yard pass at his feet with 3 LB's closing in.

Our best shot at winning a tourney game is to draw a team that wants to run. Our half-court offense is brutal. If Jok doesn't go Jimmer in that stretch, we get blown out.

At this point,...pretty much anyone else. I cant remember a late game or half situation that has worked out for us well. Not trying to be sarcastic either. I literally cant off the top of my head.

I am a homer from way back when. Back to Sam Williams, John Johnson, and "Down Town" Freddie Brown and the classic glass half full guy.

Let us remember Gesell is not the only guy at fault. It's a team game and everyone can take blame or move on to the next game. Mike is not at his best in the final few seconds but he did break some records and gave his heart, soul, blood and guts to the Iowa program.
