Gilman and his capers.

I see so many people chew on The G-man for some of his antics. Truth is he is his own person and has his own personality. He more than likely motivates himself with his lampoons. I used to be like a of of people and spoke out on how I disliked those kinds of actions.

Does the G-man have some growing up to do? Of course, he is a kid in college and maturing as a human being. He is also very successful in his style. If you can't respect a guy for saying what he thinks, who would you rather respect? Most of us are too timid to say what we think. Gilman thinks he is the best and tells us so. I can appreciate that.

Gilman gets more ink for wrestling than anyone else in the nation. If you visit the other wrestling forums they talk more about Gilman than their own wrestlers. They trash him like no other. Quite the hypocrites I would say.

If Gilman was a meek sheep he would not be the wrestler he is today. It' not how he's geared up. For those that don't like his antics and bash him for it. You are just not understanding what the G-man is all about. Winning is what drives him. I kind of like that attitude. That attitude is going to serve him well as travels through the journey of life. If we had 10 Gilman's on the team we would be National champions.

I just watched the DVR today from the meet and all I can say is wow. Reminds me a bit of Tom versus Joey Gilbert years ago. Just sId "F you" I'm going to wear your ass out and embarrass you.

With all due respect MN kid has a lot of upside.

I totally agree, a lesser wrestler he would have smoked.

As a coach you deal with many different personalities. Just like at work you have many personalities and adjust accordingly. If you have an employee that talks and doesn't get the job done you take action. If your best productive employee talks a little, you say keep up the good work.

Understanding that everyone is different and motivates themselves differently is what separates great coaches from mediocrity coaches. Great fans also understand this.

This is spot on. Brands just needs more guys with the talent level of Gilman. Remember Quentin Wright? He wasnt exactly a choir boy like David Taylor or Matt Brown were. Cael treated them different like any good coach would do.

Fortunately, we are going to get to see that soon with Kem, Marinelli, Lee, Young, Happel, Warner, Sorensen, and Stoll all being on the same team next year. I am sick and tired of watching Penn State walk away with Championships!

I am not sure what to make of this thread. Personally Gilman bothers me only because he doesn't wrestle for tosu. I was not a fan of his slam v waters but other then that he wrestles with a fire that is a huge crowd pleaser unless it's vs the team your rooting for. Things that bother me way more then this kid are: kids who just flat out give up on the mat, ducking kids for seeds, intentionally hurting someone because they are in an awkward position(jagars national championship match when dude broke his ankle). Gilman just reminds me of watching dbs and WRs jawing at each other in the NFL. It pumps me up cause it shows tangible evidence that they care. Personally, I would be more afraid of Clark then Gilman. It's those quiet kids who just keep coming after you no matter what the score is and you can never mentally break them.

What did Quentin Wright do? He displayed about the best sportsmanship on the mat you'll ever see - win or lose, and was never in any trouble.

I think a lot of the emotional reactions to Gilman stems from jealousy from people that secretely wished he wrestled for their team.

Very perceptive about Clark. Even when he loses he just keeps coming. He doesn't lose.......just runs out of time before he overcomes his opponent. 10 minute matches would be his best friend.

Wright wrestled with an very different attitude and demeanor than Brown or Taylor is all I meant. Wright carried himself much different than Brown or Taylor did on the mat. As such Cael handled them differently just as any good coach would. I never meant to imply that Wright got into off the mat trouble. Just that a good coach knows that different kids are motivated in different ways and knows how to push those buttons correctly to get the maximum out of his athletes Cael is a master of this. I was using this an an example to say "of course Brands handles Clark and Gilman differently in some regards, all good coaches do."

If I was on the Minnesota team the other day and wasn't a starter I would of decked him. His antics and the team finishing third or fourth every year must make you all feel like winners. I have lost a lot respect of your coaches just for allowing a wrestler to be that way. As for how other school fans feel for Iowa, don't worry your still #1 in the hate department. With Little G going after this year, Tom needs to go after Downey to replace Little G antics.
Says the guy who's favorite coaching staff keeps the Cocaine Cowboy around...

Brands could stop it but doesn't. Not sure why he keeps letting Gilman do it.

Have you ever thought that they could stop it, but have no desire to do so? Maybe TnT wants a little more fire out of the rest of their team, and a little bit out of our "lead off" man is okay to them? I am sure they don't want it to get out of control, but at the same time, getting a little bit of the "attitude" that scared the hole crap out of opponents in the past is what they want/need.

Just a thought.

GO HAWKS!!

It wasn't the attitude it was the fact that they were pretty sure
they were probably going to get their ass handed to themselves in a nolf and soon lee like fashion.
