I love Cory Clark as much as anybody, one of my absolute all time favorite hawks. I have a hard time imagining anybody taking it to Clark like that as well, but lets examine the situation. Clark is not back to his peak form yet as far as I can tell, his first competition back he lost to Joey Palmer from Oregon State 4-4. Thats why I believe people when they say Mark Perry told them Lee has been taking it to Clark lately. Especially once Lee gets on top, I'm sure those NF points can rack up quick if he gets that wrist. No shame in Clark losing to his future Olympic champ teammate.I can't imagine anyone taking it to Cory Clark, let's be real about this. Cory, when healthy, is one of the toughest SOB's Iowa has ever had. He might be a 1 time champ (with one arm tied behind his back), but he is a 3 time finalist. Spencer is good, but let's be realistic. No one is "taking to" Corey, ever. He can be beaten, but not dominated as the term implies.
Versus Gilman, we know if Gilman get's underneath he is in trouble but only for the period. He can make it up against anyone, including Spencer, as a kid right out of HS. At the end of the year, after months in the room, he might be getting close to Gilman and next year he might move past him, but right now, I would not pick SL to beat Gilman this year if they really went at it.
And based on how turk has wrestled this year, I do not believe anyone who makes a claim about how good someone is by stating "in the room".

If it's an injured and not in shape CC, then maybe that is happening, but a healthy CC, or at least mostly healthy CC, I don't see that. But if someone believe it, then they should be picking SL to win it all this year since we know Gilman can beat Suriano and both Clark and Gilman beat Nato. I would like to think it, but I don't put Spencer above Suriano or Nato right now, and I don't put him above Gilman or Clarke now either. I am definitely picking SL to win it all this year. And next. And [Olympic Redshirt]. And next. Wow! Clark is solid!Haven't seen it myself, but I have heard from folks in the room that he has really been taking it to Cory Clark recently.
I am not on here to be a propaganda machine for Spencer Lee. The kid is amazing and I believe he will be a multiple champ, but I am not going to say he is currently better than our last national champ or our current US Champ, who was as dominant as you can be last year without winning it.You guys have got to get past this preconception of Lee as just a "HS wrestler".....you're talking about a three-time world champ, and one who "took it to" the international competition on the way to those titles. The usual presuppositions about development and readiness just simply don't apply this time, what with the discipline and dedication with which Lee and his family have gone about developing his talent. His parents were judo Olympians, for crying out loud! The kid has come up knowing what's what, in terms of becoming an elite athlete and competitor.
I'm not asking you to take my or anyone's word for it....skepticism is healthy, and by all means trust what your eyes are telling you. But at least don't rule it out, and keep an open mind. If you want to talk behooves,I think it behoove us to get behind this kid and his potential, if it really is what it seems to be, and don't keep slagging his success off as "impossible" or "I doubt it"......feels to me like the kind of kid that could establish all new heights with a fan base that really gets behind him and believes in his potential. Sky's the limit, and all that.

Spencer had wrestled 3 guys so far, so I can't go on that, because both CC and TG would have done the same thing to those opponents. If you want to talk behooves, I think it behooves us to remember our studs from previous years, give them the respect they deserve and not sell them short, whether their parents were judo champs or not.
By the way, I agree that SL can and will take 125 to new heights, much as Snyder is doing at 285, but until he is at least in the line up, I am not going to say he is better than the two guys who did the most for us the past few years.
Nashon Garret disagrees. No one is "taking to" Corey, ever. He can be beaten, but not dominated as the term implies.

Also knee and shape have til the 29th to get stronger! The good news is we get to see SL against some good competition at Midlands...
Bad news is that we have to wait 2 weeks to see it!
I’ve seen it and if Clark and Spencer were to wrestle, folkstyle, today Spencer wins. If Spencer and Thomas were to wrestle, folkstyle, today it would depend if Spencer was able to get himself into the top position. He turns Thomas and it’s close and he probably wins. No back points I would take Thomas. If it's an injured and not in shape CC, then maybe that is happening, but a healthy CC, or at least mostly healthy CC, I don't see that. Edit: Thomas is a much much better wrstler than he was last March. Looks bigger than both Clark and Lee.
Too many internet hero stories from the practice room over the years. I won’t put any stock in them unless I see it myself.
Spencer Lee 24-0 True FR NCAA Champ has a nice ring to it.
3-0 UNI Open
5-0 Midlands
8-0 Remaining duals
3-0 B1Gs
5-0 NCAAs
Still a big jump going from high school to wrestling 23 year old men... Look at Fix when he went from UWW Jrs. (20 and under) to under UWW 23. If anyone can do it, and do it now it may be Lee. Just not ready to annoint him yet. Not taking any talk of him beating Gilman seriously at all. Last I checked, Gilman was a World finalist based on his ability to wrestle on the feet. You guys make Gilman out to be as bad as on bottom in folkstyle as Micah Jordan.
Jeez, took him long enough....FYI. Gilman beat Jimenez by TF 23-7 with :47 left in the 3rd when Jimenez was a Soph and Gilman a Jr.
Agree. Want it to be true, but these reports have been out a couple months, meaning Lee has been wrestling full go for 2 months. Then we get practice reports saying that Lee taking it easy because of knee. Not sure what to believe. My guess is Gilman and Clark leave Lee’s bad knee alone. Real opponents won’t.Too many internet hero stories from the practice room over the years. I won’t put any stock in them unless I see it myself.
Wow! Lee is the real deal!
Yes. Since your own boys turned out to be losers, you can now live vicariously through Spencer.Seriously? Well, shit. That's good news.
