They announced last night that all games would be played today as scheduled. I noticed that the refs from the first game are also doing this second game as well, which never happens so there must be some refs who didn't make the trip this morning.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck with a narrow 18-16 lead over North Linn midway through the 3rd Qtr.

St. Albert and Bishop Garrigan picked up Quarterfinal wins earlier this afternoon in Class 1A.

Btw, for those that read this, does Iowa have any targets or incoming players playing down at State this week?
Believe there's only 2 that made it to state.
1) Journey Houston (Davenport North) - 2025 commit
2) Jenica Lewis (Johnston) - 2026 prospect with a crystal ball to IA from reporter David Eickholt

There may be a 3rd depending how you want to classify her.
3) Ellie Muller (Dowling Catholic) - she's 2026 and made a visit to IC but no offer was extended to her yet.

Katie and Ellie are headed to Creighton to the best of my knowledge

I watched the Johnston game, and they are an excellent high school team. Lewis is very smooth and looks like a top recruit. What helps her is Johnston has a lot of girls who can score, so Lewis does not need to shoot a lot to impact the game. I do not know her final stats, but she was an assist machine early in the game. I hope she chooses Iowa.

Johnston is headed back to the Class 5A championship game after another impressive display of its high-end talent.

Amani Jenkins scored 19 points and got plenty of help from teammates as the top-seeded Dragons started Day 4 of the state tournament by rolling past Ankeny Centennial 61-42 for its 51st straight victory.

Johnston needs to be fired from varsity girls basketball for a little bit. They can join Sibley-Ocheyedan and Clarion-Goldfield as JV only programs for a couple years.

See where 5A is at after that. It'll be worth it. ;)

So guys, I have a story to tell after talking with a Mt Vernon parent after the game.

Seems a certain parent called the MV HC before/during the early season and informed the coach her daughter(no
name, but initials SH) needed to average 15 pts/game to hit the 1,000 pt club for her career.
Her daughter started her career at Xavier, but with Libby Fandel already there, mommy figured her daughter wouldn't get enough chances, so they transferred to MV.
Nothing like meddling parents!!!! Sure the HC was thrilled.😆😆😆😆😆

We’re waiting on the rest of the story. Did she get the 15 a game?

Nope, 11. Gonna need almost 20 vs Walhert.
Gotta add...Mommy told HC her daughter needed to stay in the game during blow out wins.

BTW...mommy is Stacy Frese.
You've heard of her. Hall of Famer and sister to Maryland Terrapen's HC.

Walhert dismantled Wburg and I think has a legit chance vs MV.
I was wrong that MV would beat everyone by 15+. ELS shut down their 6'3" post.
The Fighting Midgettes play some of the best team defense under 5A that you'll see.

Not enough ball movement, though, on offense to counter Mount Vernon's aggressiveness.

I get that they were trying to play with a certain deliberateness and pace on offense, in an effort to limit the Mustangs' possessions. The problem is, when it comes time to try to score, it's hard, especially at this level to ratchet it up and not fall into the trap of settling for shots.

You can still play the keep-away game, even with the shot clock, and swing the ball around quicker and more effectively in order to still be in a position to get the shot you want when it comes time.

One thing our team started to pick up on at the end of the season was the idea that we can make a quick second pass/ball reversal off a dribble (or even a third if open), instead of dribble dribble dribble, pass....hold.....dribble dribble dribble, pass.....hold, etc.

That keeps even aggressive defenses on their toes at all times and forces them to have to guard the whole floor as opposed to being able to focus on locking you to one side and always being in position to help on a drive.

It might seem like something simple, but I promise you, many teams can struggle with this concept.
