They forced Iowa to play their game and made plays down the stretch. PSU's coach has kept them playing hard the entire season, despite having really bad luck throughout the conference regular season. If not for Whitey's steal in the first game, the ball would have been in Newbill's hands for the win. Iowa did not play well, especially on offense, but PSU was a big reason why.

And, yes the officials let a lot of contact go uncalled, but Iowa needs to learn how to play through contact. We seem to get fewer "and ones" than any decent team, because the guys just aren't tough enough to finish at the rim. I don't think the officiating was one-sided.

Well maybe Penn State and our next opponents should try a bit harder to NOT make us play their game.......maybe they can think about that when they lose their next game, too. The jacka**es. Just sayin.

This guy gets it. We lost 8 Big10 gams this year by 6 pts or less, two of which went into OT(one was Iowa). We're not a bad team just had major issues finishing games out...

Psu is a bad team. Holy crap, that game was dreadful to watch. Iowa was crap today, but make no mistake, psu is a terrible team. This was a bad loss.

This, when Iowa loses it's when other teams are allowed to dictate the style of play right out of the gate. We also really struggle when teams get up in our space and push us around. PSU has a guy in newbill that can take over a game and carry his team and he did that today and the rest of them fed of them. The one thing Iowa really needs to learn is how to value each possession in these type of games. When we got down we came down sometimes and took shots early and that leads to empty possessions.

Iowa has lost to teams with Bigs that can take away Iowa's inside game and make us rely on our guards to shoot the ball. We've punished small ball teams like Michigan, Illinois, Indiana.

PSU had Dickerson and some other decent bigs to defend Iowa in Paint. Iowa's guards were awful.

Woody against a decent big man looks like a smaller forward or guard going up against Uthoff.

Their $h!t just gets sent everywhere.

Iowa played good D most of the game. Iowa shot the ball very poorly. A decent % they win easily. A team like Kentucky or Wisconsin can overcome poor shooting games. Teams like Iowa struggle when they shoot that bad.

I agree, Penn State came to bring their game to the court while the IOWA players had no determination.....it looked like a Brian Ferentz coached offensive line.

PSU plays physical, borderline thuggish , basketball. They hack and get away with a lot of it. Why wouldn't you if the stripes aren't going to call it?

Make no mistake with that said IOWA sucked big time today. They have shown throughout the past several years that they blow leads without much effort. They still can't shoot ( 26 % ) and they continually make lazy passes that change the flow of the game almost instantly. I don't know if it's a coaching issue or if the players aren't able to grasp the situation and take charge. What ever may be the case this team has zero half court consistency. If they can get out and run they have a chance. If not they don't. They are limited because we have no one that can open up the middle/inside with an outside shot game in and game out. Pitiful display of Basketball and if they aren't, they should be embarrassed with the entire effort against PSU yesterday.

repeat...never ever take a B1G team lightly...now saying we did... Penn St (especially in the 2nd half) punched us in the face in the 2nd half...we didnt respond on the defensive end..

Every team has a couple difference makers...Newbill being one of them..

today we had way too many missed shots....and while the Turnover total of 12 was ok..Clemmons 5 were ---wow.

you get what you get...Penn St was physically in 2nd half..no shot inside went uncontested AKA lay the hammer down..

so done deal..all we lost was maybe a seed # -- and the chance to be the team to face Wisconsin.
