Give the ball to AJ Epenesa on 3rd or 4th and short

Plz find me a video of Saban snapping a ball directly to a defensive lineman on 3rd/4th and 1.

I don't have a Bama video but I know Saban has played D-linemen in offensive packages before. Here is a video of the Chiefs doing a direct snap to their DT. The Texans have snapped the ball to JJ Watt. This isn't some foreign rediculous concept.

In a short yardage pile drive situation would your rather have Stanley trying to push the pile forward for 1-2 yards, or your 275 lb stud multi-sport athlete that is both faster and stronger than Stanley.

Sorry but you're comparing NFL linemen to a college freshman. It's one thing to say it when Epenesa is a senior but if the play goes south, it becomes the laughingstock of the country for allowing a freshman lineman to be in that situation.

I'd rather have Stanley, by a mile.

Stanley's not speedy, certainly, but he does have some mass. I don't expect him to be a ben rothlisberger like dump truck that can withstand seemingly endless punishment. He should be able to bulldoze for a few yards when necessary.

Chiefs are not Saban.

I can think of 8-10 other players on the roster I would rank ahead of AJ as players would rather see handed the ball in short yardage situation. He's not even the first DE I would choose.

AJ was an all-state basketball player and would have no problem handling the snap. He's also a 4.7 40 guy and barr none our most explosive lineman off the LOS, so that's why I chose him.

Equating basketball to being able to handle a snap on a 4th-down situation is not the same

My big thing is lack of QB keeper. Every QB I can recall for the past 10 years prior to Stanley has been able to effectively utilize it on 4th and short.

And Stanley is the biggest of them all, makes no sense.

They did the hurry up sneak throughout the GD days. It worked great for a while until teams caught on that it was our go to in those situations and that we weren't doing anything else when we did that hurry up to the line. I've been told that players/coaches were yelling things like "spot" or "measure" to momentarily lull the D into thinking they were going to challenge the spot, but I don't know if that's true or not.

Yes you are correct. And I still think this could work when all you need is a yard or two. I just think it might work better when the guy carrying the ball is heavier, stronger, more explosive, and can get more push behind the line. Add to that a fullback pushing the pile forward as well. That creates a lot of forward momentum that is tough for a defense to stop, even if the know what's coming.

How do you know he would not instinctively begin to dribble the ball and fumble it...seeing as how he was a BB player and all?
