So many times he's so wide open you know he wants to take the shot but may not have the green light. I believe his shooting stroke has improved enough that he can drain a few and even if he misses at least it gives teams scouting Iowa another thing to game plan against. Fran needs to give him the green light for one shot in the first half of each game if he drains it then he get's another shot. Can you imagine if Woodbury starts draining 3's how dangerous this team would be heading into March?

Funny enough, I don't disagree. I thought this last game but didn't have the nuts to say it. Kudos

I hear you. I like the wrinkle. BUT he'd have to actually make some of them for a opposing Big to follow him out there. IF he can hit the shot them it becomes lethal.

I just watched the Illinois game again and his defenders (like all of them) don't follow him up top because he's not a threat to shoot it. They would crap the bed if he pulled the trigger a time or two. I agree he needs to drain a couple to be a threat but we don't need him taking more then one or two shots at most a game to bring his defender out and open it up under the basket.

I like it, he has good form on his 18-20 footers and can hit them pretty consistently. I'd green light him to take a 3 here or there, when he's wide open the last few weeks I've thought the same. That guy has earned it!

What percentage do you think he would be taking a open 3? Think it would be tough for it to be worth it. And teams aren't going to change on defense until he makes more than 2 or 3. Really takes away from offensive rebounding too considering he is our main threat for an offensive rebound.

He makes them all the time in practice.

(I'm sorry and I'll never say anything like that again it's just that these posters are a bad influence)

White couldn't shoot anything but dunks until, suddenly, the last several games of his career he started taking--and making--threes. Hitting an open three ain't that hard, especially for a guy like Woody who has improved his FT shooting so much and seems to have a decent touch. So OP and others, I'd say yes. If you're wide open, shoot it. The worst that can happen is a miss. But a make now and then would be awesome.

There was a recent article, sorry don't remember where it was from, about a game the guys play where they pair up and then have to take 5 three pointers from different spots one player at a time. According to the article Woody and Uthoff team up and win all of the time.

there was an article in the Gazette a few days ago where Adam was interviewed and in re 3 pointers, he shoots them a lot in practice and is pretty good at it. As far as Fran is concerned, Adam has the green to shoot a 3 whenever he wants. Adam says, "It's not who I am. We have other good 3 point shooters." It's like the dunks everybody craves. He's shown he can now and then, but it's not his natural game. He's not comfortable with it. Fortunately, he's quite comfortable throwing great passes and playing lock down defense. You take what you can get.

Thanks Chewback, I get what Adam is saying but the other team also knows who those 3 point shooter are and try not to leave them wide open looks. By taking one or at the most two a game his defender will come out on him and then maybe He could throw one of those great passes for an alley oop dunk to Uthoff or Uhl.

I know what you're saying but I still wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Woody to shoot the 3.

Ridiculous. No one is saying he needs to camp out there the whole game. But a few times here and there will force the opposing big to cover.

There was a play in the second half I really thought Woody was going to shoot the 3. He was at the top of the key and it just look like he was going to pull the trigger. I know he thought about it.

Sure is. And this thread still makes no sense.

Woody played fantastic and he should take as many 3s as me in a college game. Dude knows his game, very well, and the 3 isn't part of his game.
The whole point of him popping a 3 attempt every now and then is to draw his defender out of the lane to open it up. No one thinks he should start shooting a bunch of 3's.

Wow Uthoff is so good from deep. Stories like this will make Uthoff become a legend like Kingsbury.
