Gonzega talking big

Meh there's another knee-jerk thread on that board saying Iowa will roll. At least it's more enjoyable than reading all the ISU threads on our own board. Some of our fans have serious insecurity issues.

And they have another thread titled "Iowa will beat us Sunday" right by that one. Looks like they have fans on both sides of the spectrum as well.

Meh. They are acting confident, but not really cocky. They have every reason to be hopeful...but so do we.

They seem pretty fair to me. Fans with a 2 seed, should definitely expect to beat a 7 seed. They don't seem extremely high.

"I have watched Iowa once this year (tonight) and Ive watched Gonzaga a lot this year. So many matchups I think favor Iowa. the guard Gazelle looks good. The small forward I thought I heard the announcer pronounce his name as Utah looked solid. There center Waterburry I think is his name looks mean, nasty and physical and good and the power forward #30 is really good from what I saw tonight (I know tonight is a small sample size). The two guys off there bench seem really really good to me, #3 I think his name is Jok a wing type of player looks great and the post player off bench #0 I think his name is Gabriel Oshani or something like that seems awesome to me. I don't like this game at all. But if ALL Gonzaga guys play good we can win and that is EXACTLY how it should be this time of year. Play GOOD you should win play mediocre you lose. Seems fair enough. We shall see what happens. I don't necessarily think we will ALL play good but the good news is that I mean absolutely nothing in this equation"

At least he got Jok's name right

If I were a Gonzaga fan and the only time I'd seen Iowa was last night, I wouldn't even bother to watch the game. I'd just start thinking about next year.

I love the cockiness of the Gonzaga players because they're going to get a wakeup call tonight and their jaws are going to hit the floor when they play a real team. We're playing as good zone defense as any team in the country right now.

We need to drive the lane and get them in foul trouble early.

I think Oshani has a very good day. With all due respect I believe this will be our finest day.BELIEVE in the power of the black and gold!

Gonzaga burst upon the National spectrum years ago as bracket busters and became a winning program. It's time we do the same and bust the bracket!

Spelling aside - I think this guy nailed it.

Villanova a #1 seed just lost to #8 seed NCST. no reason #7 seed IA can't beat #2 seed Gonzaga.

also Gonzaga just beat a team that relies on shooting the 3, while IA does not as they rely on pounding the ball and getting to the FT line. which IA does very well at is shooting FT's, they do not live by the 3. it is going to be interesting to see how the Zags matchup against Gabe and White.

all Woody has to do is guard their center as he does not have to be the major scorer, but he does need to stay out of foul trouble and rebound. lately he has been staying out of foul trouble. in his last game he had 8 points, 8 rebounds and just 2 fouls in 21 minutes. Gabe had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 fouls in 19 minutes

as a team they went 6-16 for 37.5% from 3 as a team they shot 29-53 from 2 for 54.7% and went 7-10 from the FTL. that's about as diversified scoring wise as you can get.

very true indeed. nature of the game. anything is possible.

and Gonzega is hardly 'talking big' by hoping/wishing for a win today.

it will be a great game. neither team has rolled over once this season, not once, can't expect it will happen today.

Considering how mush mouthed a lot of the announcers are he was lucky to get that close.

Turns out Iowa matched up very well against Davidson but that won't mean squat against the Zags, who are a whole different and much better animal. It will take a supreme effort by the Hawks to pull off the upset ... but they can do it with "A" games from the starting five plus a little help off the bench.

LOL

also, if in doubt in how to spell a name, going to the box score helps....good lord!

Who will guard Iowa's #30? Sorry, I don't know his name. I think Iowa had 2+ inches advantage at every position against Davidson.Aaron White. Yeah, he scorched Davidson. Wiltjer just needs to match him bucket for bucket, and the rest of the Zags need to outscore the rest of the Hawkeyes.

That is solid logic, purely genius.

You do realize that Gonzaga played at Arizona this year and only lost by three? I don't think their jaws will hit the floor facing Iowa. That said, I expect an Iowa victory tonight in a hard fought battle.

The Arizona game also went to overtime as well, and Gonzaga could have very well won but instead they blew a 6 point lead in the final minute and a half of regulation. The Zags have also played Georgia, St. Johns, UCLA, Memphis, and SMU, so as you say, they are no stranger to playing talented teams and they have a lot of talent themselves.

That being said, the conference season doesn't do much to prepare Gonzaga for the NCAA tournament and it's one of the reasons they struggle in March IMO. Iowa is also a talented team and Aaron White seems to be focused on not letting his senior season end.

Iowa hasn't been to the sweet 16 since, what, 1999 (it's been so long I forget)? Too many times since the 80s, I've felt that Iowa didn't have the talent to make it that far. It's exciting, from a fan's perspective, to feel that Iowa has a legitimate chance to win today. I think Uthoff and Jok provide some matchups issues for Gonzaga and they will be the difference if Iowa wins. I also think Uhl has to be very solid - not spectacular, but solid - because Iowa will need him to counteract Gonzaga's depth.
