TLDR; It's normal for fans to be excited and even talk some smack when their team has the chance to do something for the first time in school history. It would be nice if everybody exhibited excellent sportsmanship, but if we go undefeated during the regular season, I think after we've done it, it will still be awesome if we do it again in the future, but the excitement then won't be as big as now, so there may be less trash talking on both sides in the future (if it happens again).

Good luck to Nebraska, but I hope our Hawkeyes beat you :)

And now, the rest of the story

I do think that Nebraska can rise to the occasion and knock us off. It happens every week in NCAAF. Many others have beaten this point into the ground lately, but it's hard to finish a regular season undefeated nowadays, not that it was ever easy. So yeah, with the feat being a rare one for a reason, just that alone is a factor that works in Nebraska's favor, and against the Hawkeyes.

But great teams separate themselves from good teams with 1 loss. I am uneasy about this game for one reason only. That reason is: this is the only chance Iowa has had a chance to finish a regular season undefeated. I just want it to happen at least one time. If it had happened before, I wouldn't be very uneasy, because I would have the comfort of knowing that we've done it before.

As with everything, the first really great accomplishment is always the most difficult, then after that season, you have the experience to lean on and draw from going forward.

Nebraska fans, I speak for myself here, but please don't mistake our giddiness and excitement as us ripping on you guys. We're just kind of going over the edge lately because we're on the cusp of doing something we've never done before.

Sure, some people on both sides are getting personal about it, but when you assess the situation, you shouldn't be surprised that we're excited to have a chance to go undefeated during the regular season. This is uncharted territory for us for sure, and while your university has a rich history, the fact is that while we've had good years over the last 13 years, we haven't reached the top of the CF world, so we're just excited for the opportunity.

Regardless of how the season plays out, expect the cockiness and "immaturity" that Nebraska fans perceive in Iowa fans to diminish a little going forward from this season. It'll still be there to some degree, but after we've "been there, done that", (hopefully it transpires) I honestly don't think you'll see it in the future to such an extent.

But in the moment here, I do think it's understandable and even OK for Iowa fans to be excited, although, yes, I know at times everybody makes some unsportsmanlike comments, not just Iowa fans, and not just Nebraska fans. It's just how fans act.

Good luck Nebraska, but I hope our Hawkeyes beat you :)

Good Luck to Iowa as well, hope it is a clean hard fought game on both sides.

I hope luck falls our way today since we already had 4 or 5 heart breaking losses in one season.
