Good Nate will probably show up next week now.

Personally, I think the windy conditions last week broke the rythm he had the prior few weeks. It was like he had a game off and didn't seem to find it till the 4th qtr today. I think when he was struggling they should have went up tempo a series or two since he tends to throw better when he doesn't have to much time to think about it.

Let's hope he does. Still plenty to play for this season. Why not put today in the dumpster ASAP and finish strong? We can still win the division and get a puncher's chance in Indy.

It’s not good Nate vs bad Nate. It simply boils down to pressure filled games. Nate can light it up against the cupcakes but the moment when something is on the line, he loses all poise. He plays panicked and scared in these big games. Same thing will happen in any pressure filled game.

Spot on. Not ready for prime time

He better if we're going to win next week and keep our hopes alive for winning the West

I think we can confidently expect to perform well with the exception of the Northwestern game as that one is now an absolute must-win.

I believe Nate lacks confidence and does not have a good QB's innate ability to make split-second decisions. I will add that the loud stadium and BF not calling one of his better games mitigates this to some extent.

However, at times Nate seems to get that "deer in the headlights look."
This is not on BF in any way, shape, or form. This was horrible play by Stanley. PERIOD! BF called an awesome game, but if your QB can't hit the most open receiver in the history of Iowa football, GET HIM OFF THE FIELD.

I haven’t been impressed with Stanley all year. His touch and timing are completely off this year. He will throw one great throw for every 15-20, but everything else is kinda meh. That combined with poor decision making and getting rattled under pressure have led to fairly consistent underperformance.

The missed throws are one thing. The lack of composure for the amount of football he’s played is another. No way should a guy with his experience make that throw on 1st and goal. It was a dumpster fire, use a TO and live to fight another day. I don’t care if the sideline was begging for a TO, he should know better at this point when things aren’t right, especially in that situation

He was absolutely bamboozled as often happens under pressure for him. He needs to start popping some xanny bars before games.

Reality is this game seriously hurt his draft stock. The only thing he has consistently shown is that he doesn’t show up when it really matters against a good team. He won’t have enough opportunities to undo that in the next 1.5 years because we will be back to pedestrian next season and prob drop early to ISU.

Was it the first drive that he got an intentional grounding call? It wasn’t like he was about to be sacked.

I think adverse conditions, whether it be weather related or a hostile environment in a big game, rattle him mentally. Up tempo is a good idea in that situation. Also, he should have been taken out for at least a series to get his head right.

Iowa QBs historically under Ferentz rarely seem to be able or willing to just take charge in those situations. Remember Stanzi in 2010 failing to spike the ball to save time late against Wisky....instead looking to the sideline like "what should we do!?"

Yesterday, last possession, completed a pass for first down. EVERY OTHER QB IN AMERICA would, without ANY need to consult the sideline, know that you value time more than downs in that situation and quickly spike the ball. What did we do? Got in shotgun and wasted 10 seconds getting set up.

This has happened time and time and time and time again in the past 20 years. Thus, it MUST be a coaching thing.

Ya, outsider opinion here, he is not a mobile QB and needs a very strong running game to set up easier play-action passes to be successful. :)

The sad thing is he does have some ability to run but seemingly would rather hold the ball too long and make poor decisions/throws than take off and get the free yards looking him in the face.

Perfect example of his apparent unwillingness or inability in this regard was seen on the play immediately before the "swinging gate" play at Minnesota. Nate took the snap and the right side opened up like the proverbial Red Sea. Instead of running it in for a touchdown...he chose to overthrow Hock by 5 yards on the fade route in the corner of the endzone.

Why didn't Stanley/Iowa throw to your tight ends until the 4th quarter???
Did early then waited until playing catch up...maybe PSU did a good job taking that away. Hard to tell from watching at home.
The missed play action pass to Hock was huge and along with the bonehead call before 1/2 going for it on forth with some odd gimmick play took away momentum. The pick at the goal line was just its not your effing day..congrats to PSU you didn't play your best either but found a way to win
