Goofers v. jNW

Minny looks like a steaming turd. Maybe coaching basketball isn't little Ricky's strong suit.
Not sure how Minnesota can retain little Ricky after the end of this season....even if he has a talented recruiting class coming in next year it will be at least 2 more years before they possibly make head way in the Big Ten...they are truly worse off then Iowa was during Lickliter's last year.

It's less fun to use Goofers and jNW when we're doing well. And let's not be so harsh on Minny. Should we win in our upcoming game against them, that might not look so bad come tourney time. They were playing .500 ball before the conference season started.

How would you like to be a Gopher sports fan this year? Football, MBB, and wrestling absolutely stink.

And I agree... LilRichard is not a P5 coach.

I would add their hockey team isn't doing great this season either.

No we were worse.

I'm not so sure. They are on the brink of starting 0-11 in BIG play. If it wasn't for Rutgers they would be looking at 0-18. Rutgers is worse than any BIG team from Lickliter's last year here imo. Either way, this is a terrible terrible basketball team. I am almost embarrassed for them.

But, that's what happens when you fire a fairly successful head coach for one who has never done anything.

Childress, are you saying Lick's teams weren't close to be being as bad or as good as Rutgers and Minny this year?

Lil Pitino is definitely on the hot seat next year. Their talent is much better than the team is playing.

Do either Minny or Rugsters have anyone playing a lot of minutes who is on par with Lil Lick?

Didn't think so. Case closed.

Rutgers has better players Than lick brought in. Lick was probably a much worse coach and so much more pathetic as a recruiter.

Actually, the gophers have a lot of quickness and speed, Their guards have the ability to take it to the rim effectively, which we are vulnerable to. Their major weakness is a lack of perimeter shooting. Even though they are losing, they have played a lot of teams tough. I wouldn't take them lightly.

Minny is at least competitive in some of their games. They play an exciting brand of basketball under little ricky, but they just haven't gotten the Wins.

I am sorry but I remember Iowa going up to Minny in Licks last year I think the halftime score was something 49-16. Iowa scored 16pts in 20 minutes. They ended up getting blown out something like 88-53 (it was much worse, I think tubby put in the walk-ons at the 8min mark). Earlier in that year they got blasted by NW, Purdue, and Wisky by 20+pts. You could see it on the players faces they had enough and were done.

I do not care, that was hands down the worst Div 1 basketball team in Iowa's history. They had quality wins over Indiana, PSU and that was it. They couldn't beat anyone else and even in the non-conference they only beat bottom feeders that year. Texas & WSU both smoked Iowa that year as did ISU & UNI.

Which is exactly what Minnesota is doing this year.

Yes but Minny was toe to toe with Indiana @ Indiana couple of weeks ago. They also played Purdue tough for the first half. I am sorry but comparing this Minny team to Lick's team is not even close. I sat in Carver for those Lick years and it was awful. I remember making bets with our friends and the people around us on the deficit at each TV time out. We would all be betting on if it was double digits by the 16:00 or 12:00 media time out in the first half.

Licks last year we have 15 double digit losses! Iowa lost to teams like Duquenne and UTSA that year. Iowa beat NW and then a week later got beat by almost 20!

Minny only has 6 double digit losses so far this season. They have 7 losses by 6points or less. So they have been in the games so far, just can't seem to finish when its on the line. Lick's teams were never really competitive in a lot of their games. I realize some of the games were close (score wise) but they were completely out manned at every position when they were on the floor. The only reason the scores were close was because Iowa was chucking up 3's just to try and get back in it.

Both teams were/are bad. Here is what I do know. Minnesota's current RPI is 219. Iowa's RPI in Lick's awful last year was 185. We will have to see how Minny finishes, but if they go 1-17 or something like that, I can't imagine that would be better than Lick's last team. Both teams are bad, but to say a team that is 0-11 and 6-17 is not even close to Lick's last team is an exaggeration.

I get what you are saying, but this Minnesota team is pretty damn bad too. I personally think both Rutgers and Minnesota of this year are the two worst teams in the BIG the last five years.

Licks team were both better and had more talent than either of those two teams. It was a bad time for iowa hoops but we were a lot more competitive.

I think this is pretty close to their national ranking, in terms of experience, as well (it was mentioned during the game last night). They are extremely inexperienced, but as others have already mentioned they have better talent than their record shows. My hope is that they continue to suck as a team no matter how good their players are individually (including next year's good recruiting class).

While I agree that both teams are bad, I would put money down says this Minny team would take Lick's last team to the woodshed. Just on talent alone, Minny has the better players than what Lick ever had. I went back and looked at some of those games, WOW! The only reason Iowa's RPI was so strong that year was because they played #3Texas, #13 Ohio State twice , #6 Michigan St Twice, #4 Purdue twice, and #15 Wisky once. So they played a lot of ranked teams that year. The big ten that year had 7 teams win 20+ games that year. WOW that's a pretty tough conference.

I just think overall personally Minny is not as bad as Lick's last team. I seriously thought that was the worst basketball I had ever seen played. The announced attendance was always around 9-11 thousand, but there was never even close to that many people at the games. It was like a morgue in there. Glad Fran was able to get the corner turned and resurrect the program.

All I am saying is I wouldn't bet that this Minnesota team (or that Iowa team) would take anyone to the woodshed lol. They got beat by Nebraska and NW (twice) by 25+ and were down by over 30 to the Huskers (a team that won't even make the NIT). The bottom half of the BIG is awful this year and yet Minny does not have a single win yet. That is saying something.

I do think Gatens would have been the best player on the court for either team.
