Who’s buying goog stock tomorrow?
Sure hope they manufacture the chips locally and secure the tech from theft.

“Google has unveiled a new chip which it claims takes five minutes to solve a problem that would currently take the world's fastest super computers ten septillion – or 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years – to complete.”

Seems like a claim that can’t be proven.

But does it get the answer correct? How will we know if the answer can't be solved for ten septillion years?

With that level of speed improvement you would have to be suspicious that this chip was designed specifically around solving this particular problem...

how so? elaborate please,
It’s an irrelevant claim. They’re using a standard no one else uses or cares about.

The real eureka moment from their announcement is the proof that qubits can be arranged in such a manner where they reduce error rate. That was theoretical until now.

Quantum computers aren’t perfect. There will be some error rate. The higher the error rate the more computing resources need to be redirected to verification. This means less processing power will be needed to do the same tasks. It has huge implications for scalability.

i would assume that once you get a answer, verifying whether it is correct or wrong is far quicker/easier that solving the problem. i could certainly be wrong.

stock only up 4% this morning, i suppose pooh-poohers in this thread have managed to introduce enough FUD in moneymanager types to make them hesitate while we sly dogs buy by the bushel

It’s up like $10 in two days. That’s pretty solid. Alphabet isn’t the only player in the game.

Who is going to fork Bitcoin and why would they do it in the interest of current BTC owners?

No one believes BTC transactions will be cracked tomorrow, but in the next twenty years? The timeline to obsolescence hurts BTC as a store of value.

i did a google search for leaders in quantum chip race and it said ibm's heron chip is the leader. next search heron versus willow yielded this layman type article which is at my level of understanding and it says what you posted a while back about error rates...

Is this a processor like we are used to or is it completely different? Like, will we start seeing this in home computers or does it require an entire building of infrastructure to support? Even if it could be in a home, will the military let us have it?

Finally, how long until Skynet comes online again? Sure, they are calling it Willow but we all know the truth.

that article i posted says quantum computing will be almost certainly be cloud based due to need for cryogenics to cool the processors. no desktop or laptop

They are up about $30 a share since right before thanksgiving. I was really close to dumping all of my google a couple weeks ago over frustration with this stock. Glad I didn’t as they might finally have a run in them.

I might own a share or two or 1,900 shares of Google, bwahahahahahahahahaha!

Most of my holdings come from IPO through 2010, and I haven't sold much. Maybe like 20% of my holdings in 2017. They do pay a little dividend now too which I reinvest.

I wouldn't sell Google anytime soon. They dominate so many things not only domestically, but globally.

  1. Biggest search engine in world
  2. biggest video search engine (Youtube) in world
  3. Biggest email provided (gmail) in world
  4. Biggest photo cloud in world (google photos)
  5. Third biggest data cloud in world (google drive)
  6. Android is the most popular mobile operating system in the world controlling 70% of the world's market share.
  7. Biggest map provider in world, biggest voice search provider in world, 5th biggest Cable TV provider (YouTube TV) in United States, and I bet they'll be #1 there within a few years.

Nice man. You have made some bank.

No, I wont be selling it anytime soon. Just ready to see it pop. Been one of my worst performers the last 4ish years. Amazon is finally running again as well, which is nice.

Waymo may even take over the transportation industry, not to mention their AI and Quant computers. There was some stink on them about the possible forcible breakup, but I actually think Alphabet's parts are more valuable than its whole at the moment.

I think this one is the biggest thing no one really things about, but the competitive advantage that gives them is huge for so many things.
