"On the Democratic side, the major donors that fund the Democratic Party, they don't despise their base. The billionaires who write the giant checks that fund President Obama and Hillary Clinton and the Democrats on that side of the aisle, they don't despise the radical gay rights movement or the radical environmentalist movement or all of the people that knock on doors and get Democrats elected," Cruz said.
By contrast, the 2016 Republican presidential candidate continued, "Republican donors actively despise our base, actively despise the men and women who showed up and voted you and me into office."
"I can tell you when you sit down and talk with a New York billionaire Republican donor — and I have talked with quite a few New York billionaire Republican donors, California Republican donors, their questions start out as follows," Cruz said. "First of all, you've got to come out for gay marriage, you need to be pro-choice, and you need to support amnesty. That's where the Republican donors are. You wonder why Republicans won't fight on any of these issues? Because the people writing the checks agree with the Democrats."'
Those donors, Cruz added, also view the people who elected the Republican majorities in Congress "as a bunch of ignorant hicks and rubes."

This is behind what's killing the Republican party; they've unleashed a 'base' that ignores the issues it should REALLY be standing for. A base that thinks it's made up of Reagan Republicans.

Yep. And you don't have to be a billionaire to agree with them. You can be fiscally conservative and not a complete waste of space of social issues and agree with them.

There are a ton of people in that group. They make a good living, understand economics, don't want to create a government state of dependence, but also realize fighting over gay marriage, abortion, pot, etc. is a complete waste of time and a distraction, or even more, actually a pro-gay rights, pro-choice and anti-prohibition (such as myself). The problem is, the R's have said "trust us on the economics, we'll totally fix it" while they spend every waking second on social issues and military posturing. I won't be voting for Hillary or the Bern, but I sure as shit can't vote for the modern GOP. I guess another write-in vote for this guy in 2016.

Oh man, am I going to have to agree with Cruz now? SOAB! At least he still thinks I'm radical.
He does not believe it, he is just trying to prove his bokifids as an outsider. It's him against the base. He thinks this is his way to the nomination and you libs are falling for it

The radical base gets you the nomination. Then... the radical base helps elect another Dem as President.

Rinse and Repeat.

I know some very hard working people, who do quite well for themselves, and are heavily involved in supporting the Democratic party. They despise the laziness exhibited by those who wish to do nothing and suck off the teet of the government.

Both parties have people those who foot the bill aren't too proud of.

No what kills the republicans is being liberal. If the GOP is liberal and the Democrats are liberal, than why vote GOP?
