Spencer is the only guy to not get concerned about when down 8-1.
Teske was good after he got going. Needs to get rust off.
CS gutted it out against good wrestler up a weight class. Escape at end was great.
Mad Max is a different beast this year. I know, the competition but still a new Max style.
Rathjen was a takedown away from taking down the #3. I think he starts somewhere next year.
Riggins was a nice fill in for PK.
Brands wrestled tough. I wish he would shoot more.
Assad has some guns this year. Nice pin, he was still mad about Illini stalling Friday.
JWar looked good. I think the knee is still bothering him, just not as crisp from neutral.
Cass was chicken pooped by Purdue coaches.

Like what sdvike said and agree with everything he wrote.

In other thread some posted about other great comebacks. Who ever saw someone down 8-1 on their back in the first. Get out, and go on a rampage to get a fall before then end of the 1st! Crazy, how do you grade it!?!?!? A+ for getting the fall, or B because you got taken down then thrown. before you pinned the #9 ranked guy?

I will add

.Teske looked pretty tuff after giving up 1st takedown. Lets hope he keeps getting his health back to 100% alone with Woods.

Max sure looks like he has stepped it up.

Like what I saw from both Rathjen and Riggins. If Chittum and Rathjen can fill 149-157 for us down the line. I believe we are in good hands.

Brands has me confused. The way he use to wrestle, like a bigger DeSanto almost, just always shooting attacking to now. I just don't get it?

It was a great college comeback. Reminded me of the professional version of what you see at a lot of kids matches.

Lee has looked better at this point in the season than I expected. And he is wrestling more than I expected. I would say he is nowhere near the wrestler on his feet that he used to be, but somehow he looks better on top - which is inexplicable because I thought there was no room for improvement. I guess the upper body strength training has paid off.

Hopefully, by wrestling consistently, he will learn to adjust to his lost mobility on his feet.

I am actually encouraged by his neutral game or on his feet. I've seen progression each week. Keep in mind that for two years he has had a torn ACL and then he was trying to wrestle with two ruptured ACL's . This took away lateral motion and also explosiveness. He has progressed each week and he is almost exactly one year removed from double knee surgery. His lateral motion or side to side is back. I have seen him hit his HI-C, Firemans and against Ramos his single leg. This is huge. You can't take away his front head lock offense, his HI-C and Firemans and also the single leg. The fact that he has hit his primary shots now is huge. Now, he has to put it all together with motion. A year removed... he is so much better than I expected. 2-3 weeks from now, I believe we will see the Spencer Lee neutral game we saw his freshman year with a stronger top game. By March, I would want to be on the other side of the bracket:)

i feel like spencer misses austin. it was such a formidable 1 2 punch to begin the meet.lee would just naturally amp up everyone then tag in desanto, who as we all know is pure excitement. i do not mean performance wise only a release.

Yep, just takes time. Basically he didn’t wrestle for almost two years

Biggest disappointment for me was Brands.

Faced an average wrestler that bumped up a weight.

Brands wrestled him like he was a top ranked guy.
I'm hoping there's something that's causing whatever is ailing him because he just doesn't look interested in wrestling. Like someone else said, in the past he was all about attacking. Now it's just the opposite...no interest at all in attacking.

This is his 5th year in the program. He is simply an ok but not great wrestler. His attack rate has never been high in college. Beating Assad like a drum in a preseason freestyle exhibition is his claim to fame thus far.

Pretty much how I’ve been reading him. He’s settled into this style and no way should he counted on to produce many points.
