I realize we didn't have five finalists like PSU, and that our boys didn't bat a thousand in the finals like Okie and OSU. But just the same, we had 3 finalists (second only to PSU) and 6 AAs (tied for the most), despite the injury to Stoll, who had a good chance of making it 7 AAs. And lets face it, most of us who watched all of Iowa's matches this year, didn't think we had much of a chance (OK, no chance) of making the podium at 141 (no shit), 157, 165, or 285 (poor Stoll). In the end most of us realists were counting on 2-3 finalists and 5-6 AAs (likely 5 based on Meyer's performance down the stretch). So while we didn't knock em dead, there's really no shame based on the talent we brought to the big dance.
Kudos to Gilman, Clark and Sorenson for making it to the finals, and to Burak, Meyer and Brooks for making the podium (and achieving their best finish thus far at the NCAAs). And a special kudos to Meyer, who could have easily thrown in the towel after losing in the first round, but instead battled back through the consolation bracket to finish 8th!
I'm in no hurry for next season to get here as I'd like to enjoy Spring, Summer and Fall, before freezing my ass off again, but I am looking forward to what our team will be bringing to the table next year!
