you can’t always get what you want!
I'm "going solar" and the other day the guys were installing the superstructure for the solar panels. Before the panels can be installed a city inspector had to come out and "ok" the work that had been done. So the inspector arrives and the construction guys offered to escort the inspector to the roof to answer any questions....The inspector replied "I don't go onto roofs...I do my inspection based on the plans..." He then asked a couple of questions based on his visual inspection from the ground. He left and the panels were installed...Now he has to come back in a couple of weeks for some follow up inspections....
I thought it was interesting that the inspector could inspect the work being done on my roof from the ground, looking up......so did the installers.

The roof inspectors where I live do the same thing.

They walk around on the ground and then declare, "Yep, that's a new roof" and sign off on the permit.

Our roofing company was required to put out ladders for the inspector so he/she could go up on the roof. Didn’t actually see them do it though.

The building departments don’t allow inspectors to go on roofs anymore. Liability issues. We take photos of our solar installs at certain stages of install and that’s how inspections work down here.

This may be a shock to you, but most inspectors don’t know shit. The majority of electrical inspectors don’t even know what they’re looking at.
Are you hiring by chance? I am fully qualified and don’t know shit.

Our home inspector sucked. All these things that I wouldn't have thought to check for (windows latching, doors locking, stuff like that) he signed off on as all being good. As the sucker I am, I didn't double check. I don't think a single window works properly or latches, front door is not framed correctly so won't latch, same with master bed and bath.

one of my fav pick up lines for red heads is "if the roof is rusty I need to check the basement" 60 percent of the time it works everytime.

After the last big hail storm we learned about that. A lot of insurance companies don't allow adjusters to get on roofs anymore. Really seems pointless. If someone calls in from a place known to be affected, why send anyone at all instead of just approving?

One adjuster however that did get on the roofs was a woman pushing 60. She was a damn spider monkey zooming up and down extension ladders.

It's good that the inspector was able to do their job without having to physically climb onto the roof. I'm sure it made things a lot easier for everyone involved. It's also a testament to the quality of the installation work that the inspector was able to give approval based on a visual inspection from the ground. It's important to use high-quality building materials and techniques when installing solar panels, such as using hoop iron from a trusted source like scrooz.com.au. I hope the follow-up inspections go smoothly and that you'll soon be able to start enjoying the benefits of your new solar panels!
