Greg Gard told JBo he wasn’t Wisconsin material. Jason Bohannon was high on Iowa until Steve Alford drove him away

The Kohl Center has been central to Jordan Bohannon's story.
* He attended youth camps there
* He watched his older brothers play there
* It is where he learned he wasn't "Wisconsin material"
* THE SHOT.

Tonight will be JBo's final visit.

Pretty cool story.

I wouldn't want to play for Steve Alford either.

I didn't ... :)

I’ve had a couple of conversations with a mutual acquaintance of the Bohannon’s
(as I’m from the Cedar Rapids/Marion area originally as well) & we’re both big IA hoops fans.

According to him, the Bohannon’s were really turned off by Alford’s arrogance during Jason’s recruitment that went well beyond Alford discouraging Jason from taking all of his visits.

Take it for what it’s worth as our mutual acquaintance was quick to say he’s a pretty distant acquaintance of the Bohannon’s.

To be fair, the way he plays defense he really wasn't Wisconsin material but that doesn't mean he's not an all time Hawkeye who I've enjoyed watching over the years. The missed free throw to tie #40 was one of the classiest things i've seen in college basketball and while maybe not the classiest, gifting his shoes to hilton was a pretty cool touch. No doubt he understands what it means to be a Hawkeye. I hope I get the chance to buy him some beers someday, should be extra motivated tonight. Thanks for posting that....if the Bohannons were turned off by Alford its further proof they are good people!😄

after having 8 years of behind annoyed by Bohannons at Wisconsin I always wondered how the youngest didn't follow their footsteps

Makes sense. There are very few on the planet who are simultaneously as arrogant and joyless as Alford. That’s a shitty combo. To top it off, he hides behind Jesus yet does nothing for others.
It can’t be overstated how much his uncontrollable narcissism set back Iowa hoops.

Steve is a bit of an opposite to Fran. Fran has done a lot of unlikable things on the court like the chair smashing, the ranting and raving, the calling the ref a cheater, etc. But off the court Fran is a great guy, so well spoken, champion of the game and charitable causes, etc.

Steve sucked in public. He did so much wrong after his first season in terms of public relations. He did some wrong on the court like player favoritism, but a lot of players did really like working with him. Back then he was younger and related to them better. If you were one of his guys then he was a player’s coach to you. But it wasn’t like that for every one on the team.

Alford threw players under the bus often. He never took accountability for his bad coaching or decisions. Still hast appologized for his decision to support the Peirce. In light of his many failures, he is still over-valued as a coach. He is worse than his record

This was the biggest reason I couldn't stand him, although he provided plenty of others.

But the fact that it was never on him, always someone else, was disgusting. Just like Calipari.

Alford had a brief love affair with UCLA as their head coach.
But the feeling was not mutual when he could not get to .the
Final Four with the Bruins. He had two high profile jobs, one
at Iowa and one at UCLA, however he never took them to the
Promised Land of a National Championship.

And to think at UCLA Alford
had a ton of 4-5 star talent including guys like Lonzo Ball, Jordan Adams,
Ike Anigbogu, Jonah Bolden, Etc
It’s pretty crazy he couldn’t succeed
at Westwood

Fran never asked for free suits, free everything! Alford was known for that.
