"Former University of Iowa field hockey coach Tracey Griesbaum, whose firing last year sparked an uproar from many of her former players and colleagues, has filed a civil rights complaint with the state.
Griesbaum, who has alleged that a pattern of gender bias at UI under Athletics Director Gary Barta led to her termination, has lodged a complaint with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, her attorney, Tom Newkirk, said.
The complaint is the first step in filing a lawsuit in district court, which Griesbaum is poised to do, Newkirk said. Once a civil rights complaint is on file with the state for 60 days, the person who lodged the complaint can request a “right to sue” letter to take their case to court."
