I haven't gotten into the portal, and besides B1G guys don't know much about who entered the portal. Have there been guys showing interest from Iowa? An experienced combo guard, who can shoot the 3 and plays plus defense, would sure be a nice way to round out the team, especially if Weesy is going pro.

If Bohannon returns I doubt we look to add any guards. With PMac , the Murray's, and Sandfort I think we are fine

I think Fran has asked JBo to keep it quiet. That would make sense anyhow... Both for transfers and current players.

If Jordan says he is coming back for his 9th year, that would immediately rule out a lot of players. Knowing that a starter is returning.

It would also make it a negative for current players. Knowing that another guard is staying, and taking minutes. Although with CJ leaving, that opens up a tons of minutes...if he could get healthy.

I would like another guard, for certain. To add a cliché, Guards win championships.

JBo has been a valuable part of the team, but I would prefer to see JBo's role to be an off-the-bench situational player, if he returns. For example, if Iowa has the lead with a few minutes to go, I want JBo and Connor on the floor. IMO, it is time for JoeT and Ulis to show what they can do at PG, and JBo is definitely not a plus on the defensive end. I agree that it would be beneficial for JBo to keep quiet about whether he will return, until Iowa has had a chance to explore its options in the portal...

Connor at the end??? Didn't he shoot in the neighborhood of under 60% free throws?

I’m done with JBo. It’s been fun, but if he isn’t scoring 18+, he’s a liability. Dude just does not even think about trying to play defense.

I would love to see +/- numbers for our guys.
This isn't true. JoBo may not be the best defender on the team but he puts in the effort.

It's obvious you don't like him, but don't make shit up about him. He was/is a great Hawk.

Great idea! Let's deceive potential players about who is on going to be on our roster. And then in a year when they transfer due to less playing time than expected, we can question their character.

I won’t argue his Hawk ness but defensive effort was inconsistent at best. Him losing the edge and allowing penetration made the rest of the defense suffer.

It's more than just shooting free throws. Connor makes good decisions. He is like having a coach on the floor. I haven't seen enough of the young guards to know how they would close out a game. The crap about Connor playing because his dad is coach is BS IMO. He played hurt this past year, and was one of the most valuable players the year before.

If they put JBO at the 2, I’ll feel better about his return.

Singing a different tune with your CF buddies:

"If Jbo is coming back, I’m going to be upset. Joe T deserves his shot, as does Ulis. Bohannon is past his prime, and he simply isn’t a good player. He’s brought some great memories, and he’s broke some records. Go out now, and be remembered as a great. Come back, be remembered as selfish."

It could work if JoBo were in a rotation on 4 guards at the 2 guard spots - Joe, Ahron, Tony and Jordan. The hot pair gets the most minutes as determined in each game, they get to push 100% knowing that they'll probably get between 15 - 25 minutes on the floor. That should be incentive enough to give it their best.

Yep. When I started hearing the rumor, I wasn’t happy about it, but I started thinking about JBO maybe playing the 2 with an athletic guard next to him. It could work.

Enough with JBo. Him coming back is not good for the long term Success of this team. The young guards need minutes. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them hits the portal If he comes back. He hurts this team defensively I don’t care what anyone says. He can’t break down the defense when it needs to be and Fran just can’t help himself in playing him to many minutes. He has had his time and it is time to move on

I agree. Don’t see any reason to check out guards in the portal as the kids we have coming up are all better than the ones that were starters this year according to many people on this site during the season

JoBo would be a nice complimentary piece on a team like Kentucky or Baylor where they have overwhelming amounts of athleticism, length and defense which would more easily cover up his deficiencies, but allow him to play smart and launch 3's. Off the bench.

Simalarly, this is why CJ moving to a Kentucky will accentuate his strengths as a shooter, but not force him the be the main guy, which could wreak havoc on his body.

I’d be interested in seeing Bohannon’s numbers in catch and shoot situations versus off the dribble. I almost think he might be a better shooter off the dribble which isn’t super conducive to him playing the two guard. He puts in good effort defensively, but there’s a reason that he didn’t crack 20 minutes in the Oregon game - guy is a liability on that end of the floor

I appreciate what he’s done for Iowa, but am in the camp of either letting the young guys we have log heavy minutes and develop, or find a better two way guard in the portal. If Bohannon comes back, he should be Perkins’ backup imo

If he can't make it through a season uninjured at Iowa, KY isn't going to be any easier.

Had that chance this year with cj hurt to play him next to joeT. Didn’t happen nearly often enough. If jbo comes back i am worried about frans loyalty to him 🤦‍♂️

I still think we need to add a 3&D combo guard (if one's even available) to put in with JT/Ulis/Perkins... sorry but JBo is not that guy
Whether it be JoBo or someone else, it is needed. Ideally it would be a 6'5" strong guard who is a JuCo or grad transfer, mature, a leader, who can shoot the 3, drive and score, play great defense. Ideally.

And that is what EVERYONE wants. Not really that easy to find this kind of player.

If JBo comes back, I wouldn't be surprised if one or more of our other guards hits the portal, and the idea of keeping it a secret would do a disservice to other players.

He has never touched anything close to great. Idc what his numbers are. He’s the definition of a liability unless he hits 3+ threes. Which transforms him into a solid player.

I have no doubt Fran and staff are totally up front with current players and recruits.

If he asked JBo to be quiet (and it’s very possible he did), he simply wants to control the discussion with current players and recruits and not have JBo comments misconstrued.

The dialogue of “how would you feel if JBo came back as an off the ball outside shot specialist “, “you (Joe T and Ahron) are the primary PG’s with JBO sliding to the PG spot to cover foul situations or injuries only”, “you (Tony) will see 25 minutes a game as a projected start”, etc. is much different than JBo announcing he’s coming back.

I’m, of course, throwing out potential discussion examples and have no idea on JBo’s or the staffs intent.

Not last years Kentucky, they were bad. He would bring little value

Sounds like Josh Dix in a couple years

OK plug in another athletic team with elite talent (I meant the new retooled KY team). Either way the point is that his liabilities would be significantly muted versus being on a more skilled, but less athletic team.
Agreed, but would he be willing to accept that role?

Where are these facts? Stats you mean? Stats also say KMM was out best wr ever. When really he wasn’t in anyone’s the top 25.
When you are second all time in the B10 in 3 pt shots made and 1st all time in assists at Iowa, you are an Iowa great, regardless of what some anonymous putz on a sports site thinks. You are a nobody. He is a somebody.

Why are you getting so whiny? It’s just an opinion. I literally don’t know one single Hawkeye fan that wants him back. Including most of the people on this board. So once again, how did he gain that reputation?

He’s also 2nd in three point attempts in the Big Ten over the same time frame and hasn’t finished better than 8th in terms of Iowa historical single season assist totals.

His high career totals are a byproduct of the high minutes he’s played, and you are struggling to differentiate between fact and opinion

I just think he deserves a fair shake. If that's being "whiny" then so be it.

His defense in the Oregon game was brutal.

CJs was almost as bad.

Any time he was in the game Oregon pg just isoed him and got into the lane with ease.

Im tired of watching that.

Iowas best chance for success is strong defense next year and that won't work with a guy like JBO out there.
